Lost Editing in Blocks
-
I’ve lost ability to Bold or Italics in my posts editing when I add a block
-
Hi there,
Is there a specific page or post that this in reference to and are you adding the Paragraph Block ?
Please provide a URL of an example post/page that is having this issue and I’d be happy to take a look.
Thanks,
-
Thanks for getting back to me I really appreciate it. The thing is I don’t get the Paragraph toolbar when I add the paragraph block so I can’t align text, bold or italic it. Likewise with adding an image, I can’t centre it ?
Thanks

Right now, it seems that you’re using the Classic editor on your site, I understand that everything works correctly then, is that right?
If you switch to the Block editor and add a paragraph text, after clicking on the block itself, the toolbar will appear above like this:Similarly with adding an image block. When you click on the block, you’ll see more options and you’ll be able to center the image:
If you still don’t see the toolbar, try clearing your browser’s cache. You can find here more information on how to clear the cache depending on your browser:
Let us know how it goes.

Thanks fresatomica
I switched to classic editor when I couldn’t get the paragraph block editor.AG

I see, if you decide to go back to the Block editor and have any problems with it, let us know :)

I’ve made that change on the back end of things for your site. Write back if you need anything else.

Thanks you’re most helpful. I think it might be ok now.
One other thing if you don’t mind ? My last blog I deleted because I found out someone who lives nearby had been reading it for the purposes of intimidating and harassing me. This new blog I’ve started under a pseudonym rather than my real name. However I log into WordPress under my real name and email. How can I make sure when I go public that my email and real name does not come up ?
Thanks
-
Sure, you’ll want to make sure that the Public Display Name at https://wordpress.com/me is your pseudonym.
Also, since your username appears to be your full name (or a full name at least), you may want to change that: https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-your-username/

Thanks for that.
Incidentally I still can’t get the Paragraph Toolbar when I switch to Block Editor. I’ve now switched back to Classic Editor for the time being. Likewise I don’t get the editor when I add an image so I can’t align the image when uploaded. I think you’ve got a bug somewhere ?For now I’m using Twenty Twenty theme. I want to use a Free theme for now and when I go public ( my blog is set private at the moment ) I’ll see how my readership builds up before I pay for a theme. I think that’s reasonable ?

Hi there,
The block toolbar is showing up on our end, therefore this is not a bug.
Can you please switch back to the Block editor and take a screenshot of what you see when you select the Paragraph and the Image block? Then upload the images to your Media Library so I can see them. Here’s how to take a screenshot:
-
Ok done that and uploaded to media library. Basically what happens is that I switch to Block Editor. Add New Post The Title bar comes and If I select the plus key and select the Paragraph or Image key I do not get the associated Editor.
I’m happy for now to keep using the Classic Editor.
Thanks

It does appear to be the correct block. The formatting button are hidden intentionally so they don’t get in the way of writing. If you hover your mouse near the top-left of the block, they should pop back up.
-
Ok so I’ve hovered the mouse near the top left of the block and it doesn’t pop back up. I’m fed up with this now so i’ll just stick to classic editor.

I also seem to have lost my ability to edit individuals blocks in my post, even when I am in the Block Editor (at least that’s what I assume I’m in). I no longer see the little edit toolbar show up at the top left of each block, and clicking on the “edit” at the top bar does absolutely nothing.
I have no idea why this editing ability went away in the first place. Can someone assist in getting my edit capabilities back to where they were?

What browser are you using? Can you please check if it makes a difference if you try to use the block editor in another browser?
Can you also please answer the browser question, and also let us know what site you need help with?

Hi – I typically use IE for browser, haven’t tried it any other at the moment. Site is verynearlyteatime.com.
Thanks! -

Thanks for that. Go to https://browsehappy.com/ to see which version of IE is in use. There are some other reports with certain browser and the block editor so updating the browser may help.

I’m using Microsoft edge. For now I’m going to stick with that and keep using Classic Editor. Apologies but I can’t be bothered with messing around with Block Editor at the moment.
