Lost formatting when copying to a post

For two months I have posted “Game Results” from an htm file on a flash drive with great success. For the last two days, even though I am still doing the same thing and the person creating the htm file is doing the same thing, when it is posted, all formatting from the original is lost. What can I do to make sure the formatting remains the same as what is on the htm file. Would be happy to send you the htm file as an attachment.

    Hello!

Can you clarify how you’re formatting the original file? Are you adding HTML markup, posting into the Text Editor (not the Visual editor)?

What I would recommend is that you compose your posts directly into the Post editor and use multiple authors to compose the post:

    I hope that helps!

The original file is saved as a .htm file on a pc. It is then put on a flash drive. On my Macbook, I open that file and copy the file. I then go to our wordpress site, click on add a new post and paste the file into the appropriate post. and publish. This has worked for the first two months without fail. Now — with no changes in procedure — the formatting of the file is lost and the columns of material disappear.

Because the computer with the game results is not connected to the internet, I cannot put the file directly from the pc to our wordpress site. This work around seemed to be working beautifully.

Thanks for that information, but you didn’t answer my original question: how are you formatting the original file? Are you writing this in Word, then saving it as an HTML file, or are you hand coding the HTML formatting in a text editor like Notepad or Text Edit?

We have recently made changes to how the post editor works, so it’s possible the workflow you’ve been using may no longer be supported:

Improved Menus, Autosave, Revision Tracking, and Post Locking, FTW!

Yes, writing it in Word and then saving it as an html file. Sorry I didn’t answer your original question.

    Great! Thank you. :)

If the computer that’s connected to the internet has Word, I would recommend saving the file in Word on your flash drive, and use this tutorial to retain your formatting when you copy your post:

If not, save your file as HTML as you have been and instead copy and paste the source code from your file into the Text Editor of your post (not the Visual Editor). That should also retain the formatting.

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
