Lost in Patterns
-
Once appn a time we had reusable block – nice easy name to remember because they err…were blocks we could use again and again. Made sense -yes?
Tody they have a new name -patterns?
Go figure.Once we could click and edit reusable blocks, actually called MANAGE I think.
So how do we now manage edit or whatever the word of the day is, these own patterns, or once were reusable blocks please?
And why do we seem to have change for changes sake? if it aint broke, why fix it?

Ok, I read the AI reply followed instructions and then this:
aim2dchinabusinessnews.wordpress.com is blocked
aim2dchinabusinessnews.wordpress.com refused to connect.

Hi there, if you are using the Default/WPcom dashboard on your site, there is an issue with some browsers connecting to the “synced patterns” AKA reusable blocks which are only available in the Classic/WP Admin dashboard. You can find yours here http://aim2dchinabusinessnews.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=wp_block
There’s another forum thread that discusses the change and this issue. Staff are aware of the problem.
Let us know here if you have other questions on this.

Thx @justjennifer.
After few false starts I thought I had it licked and was able to delete some parts, move others and add new. However when I saved I found all I had done was deleted~
So, clearly a gap in my understanding. When I have a bit more time I will read your links and try to rebuild it, but, again, sometimes I do wonder why something that was working well, and was relatively easy, had to be changed in the first place.
One of WordPress’ strengths was its ease of ability to be deployed by (almost) anyone – no tech skills needed. But these days I wonder if that is really still true? This isn’t the first time i have had to spend time fixing something that didn’t perform as it did when I used it last week or search for something that wasn’t where it was when I last used it.
Moving the word count springs to mind.Still, seems no one else is commenting so …..
Anyway, thx again for your feedback.
Cheers

Hello again,
The link I provided earlier http://aim2dchinabusinessnews.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=wp_block when clicked should bring you directly to the place in your WP Admin dashboard where you can create, edit, or delete your Reusable Blocks/Synced Patterns.
That dashboard has not changed since Reusable Blocks were introduced and the Editor there behaves just like the regular Post or Page editor. You can create and save a draft of your reusable block, or immediately publish it.
Can you explain a little further about what you said here:
After few false starts I thought I had it licked and was able to delete some parts, move others and add new. However when I saved I found all I had done was deleted~

Hello again @justjennifer and, again, thank you.
As yet I’ve not had time to follow up with your first reply or the links therein.
I’ve messed up my re-usable block, (RB) don’t have time to fix it so for now it is what it is. Broken. It’s a low priority in the scheme of things.Explaining
After I tried the conventional “manage your RB’s” as I always have and found there was no option, I posted the question, which generated an AI response.I followed that to the point where in the block there was an option to Manage RB’s so I thought I was home. But that led to a “blocked” message. I wasn’t sure if that meant blocked in the conventional sense, ie, unable to proceed, or that my page had now been blocked and I could edit it. If you follow me.
Working on the latter, I found, indeed I could edit the RB. So I begin moving sub blocks, deleting others and adding new. When I check it is “view” it looked OK ish, not quite as I hope but again, time is never my friend. That, by the way was why I chose WP years ago to begin with. It was quick, easy and “just worked.” No piddling around.
So I saved, closed and moved on.
A reader later told me it was broken, I looked and indeed, nothing that I added or moved was saved, just the blocks I deleted have gone.Cheers

OK-thanks for that additional information. I understand better.
You can recover earlier versions of your Reusable Block using Revisions. Here’s more on that: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/create-a-pattern/#restore-a-previous-revision
Again, you can directly access all your Reusable Blocks/Synced Patterns with the link I provided in both my answers above. No need to go the long route to get there.
