Lost links when domain mapping
-
My wordpress address is http://bwoods.wordpress.com but I recently had it mapped to http://www.bradleydeanwoods.com. It worked perfectly with the mapping but when somebody links to my new site instead of the old one, Technorati and wordpress count each of these sites differently. So basically I have to start over building my links for authority. Is there a way around this?

Not that I am aware of. Suffice to say that raincoaster also had to start anew when her blog went to a domain. Links are ephemeral and an explanation for Technoarti’s new approach to authority and ranking can be found here http://technorati.com/weblog/2007/05/354.html
Wordpress does not count links it simply displays the links gathered by Google on our stats pages. Please note that you need to remove the “www” as the “bradleydeanwoods” replaces it and using it means many internet users and some search engines will not access your blog. Your blog’s url is http://bradleydeanwoods.com

Yes, you have to start from zero in Technorati, but it’s not that bad for Google. One compensatory thing I noticed is that Technorati counts every post in your blog as a link from your old URL to your new one, so your rankings are automatically artificially boosted that way.
It took me four months to regain my old Technorati ranking, which had taken me eight months to build up. The long-term benefits of making the switch in the first year of a blog rather than later make it ALWAYS worth doing.

I switched mine over in January and it took a short time (a couple of months?) to get my old Technorati rating back. But my Google page rank is lower. (Of course, I forgot to re-register with Google until about a month ago :( )
