Lost login details and password
-
Hi I have just taken over a new role in our local Church and one task is to take over the website hosted on wordpress.com. I have absolutely no details as to how it was set up, passwords, logins etc. I have tried account recovery but it tells me there is no account when there is a page I can see. I don’t really want to duplicate and set up another. If I did can I get the original taken down?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
If you need to take over that account, the only way to do so is if you are able to provide proof of ownership via our account recovery process:
Or if by “lost” you mean that account’s owner is deceased, please follow this process instead:

Hi wrmcadmin,
I have tried account recovery but it tells me there is no account when there is a page I can see.
Can you send a link to the site you need help with? That way, I can look at your options :)
Thanks!

Thanks to you both for feedback.
Gemma the link is https://whalleyrangemethodist.wordpress.com/

Hi wrmcoffice,
whalleyrangemethodist.wordpress.com is owned by whalleyrange1. Could you try logging out of wrmcoffice from the My Profile page, then log back in with the username whalleyrange1?
If you are unable to remember the password, it can be reset with these steps:
https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=lostpassword
For security reasons, I can’t share which email address this will be sent to so I recommend checking all of your email accounts including the spam folder.
Let me know how you get on.

Gemma,
Huge thanks fo this.
I have done as you have said and generated a new password email. I have circulated the email to potential contacts at church to advise that if they receive this email to let me know and forward the password. the username may jog someone’s memory.
I think it is highly unlikely that I will hear from anyone as that was the point in the first place about not having any login details.
Can you advise what options I have if the password email is not advised to me?
It’s a shame to lose the work already done and create a duplicate site.
Thanks
Jill

Hi Jill,
You’re welcome! If you don’t have access to the account email address and are unable to reset the password, the account recovery form will be your only option:
I completely understand you not wanting to start a new site but without proof of ownership, we are unable to help you access the site for security reasons.

It may also be worth asking people to check their spam folders in the case the password reset email has gone there, or searching for “whalleyrangemethodist.wordpress.com” in their email accounts.

Huge thanks for your help and advice Gemma.
I won’t be able to complete the account recovery form so my only hope now is that the email has gone to the only person mentioned in connection with the account and that they forward it and don’t delete it, even though I have messaged others to inform them that the email has been sent and could be in their spam.
