Lost my blog on WordPress.com

I had my blog hosted on WordPress and my domain had expired – I had renewed it – however, couldn’t find the details on WordPress -can you help me recover it?

To clarify – my blog was http://www.musingsofabombaygirl.com – I had stupidly not renewed the domain in time which was hosted outside WordPress.

I can access http://www.musingsofabombaygirl.wordpress.com however only posts till 2015 are visible. The last few years blog posts are not visible.

I now own http://www.musingsofabombaygirl.com (bought from Go Daddy) however cannot seem to connect it back to WordPress.COM – right now it just says if you are the owner, login to launch the site and it directs me to CPanel – and I dont have details of the same.

Can Staff please help me figure this out?

  • Hi there!

Since the domain is not registered with WordPress.com, once its renewed you can go ahead and purchase any of our plans and map it back to your site:

    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/

Note, however, that the domain is just an address and it will not affect the content of your site. The content you see right now on musingsofabombaygirl.wordpress.com is the same that you’ll see when you map your custom domain to that site.

Is your idea to use the domain with the site musingsofabombaygirl.wordpress.com or are you trying to point it to another of your site?

Hi, before I lost my domain – I had the free wordpress.com account. Do I have to buy a plan to now connect it back to WordPress?

I do not see all the content that was in musingsofabombaygirl.com on http://www.musingsofabombaygirl.wordpress.com – I had switched from wordpress.org to wordpress.com in 2015.

Until recently musingsofabombaygirl.com was even reflecting on my WordPress account however jetpack was unable to establish a connection and I disconnected it and now the content on musingsofabombaygirl.com seem to have been lost..

Can you help me recovering the lost data?

  • @ayenume is there any chance you switched from WordPress.com to WordPress.org in 2015? At the site here I can see posts up until about 2015.

If you had the site somewhere else and that expired, can you contact that host?

  • I also noticed that just today you bought a plan (which you hadn’t had here for some time.)

If you need to cancel that, you can do that here:

Hi, I had switched from .com to .org or .org to .com – not sure but in 2015 I had purchased the domain and had mapped it to WordPress – all my content was published via WordPress. Until few hours ago I could view it in my wordpress.com dashboard as well – but jet pack wasn’t able to establish connect to I erroneously disconnected it – and now neither can I launch my website nor retrieve the content written post-2015. I purchased the plan hoping to retrieve my previously lost content.

  • Okay, if Jetpack was involved it was definitely a WordPress.org site. Jetpack is what was connecting it to your WordPress.com account and that is why you were able to post and manage your site from here.

The site and all your content are hosted with another company though, so we won’t be able to assist you retrieving it.
You’ll want to contact your host directly to get help with that.

The paid WordPress.com plan will not help here so, unless you’d like to migrate your content from the self-hosted site and work on your WordPress.com site, you’ll probably want to cancel it.
