Lost my classic editor and I want it back
-
Somehow I lost my classic editor format and I want it back. How do I restore my classic editor? Without it I am out of business. I cannot work in the block editor.
This is an urgent “hurry up” request.
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

When you’re in the Posts or Pages dashboard, make sure you are in Classic View and not the default view. You can switch between them using the VIEW tab at the top right of your browser screen.
If you don’t see that VIEW tab, please share a screenshot of your Posts or Pages dashboard.
Also, you can set the Classic view as your preferred view for your site’s dashboard https://wordpress.com/support/dashboard/#always-use-wp-admin

I tried to provide a screen shot but got an error message “Your reply cannot be empty.” I could see the screen shot. I am trying to follow your instructions and will report the results.

None of the below worked:
Always Use WP-Admin
You can set your website to use WP-Admin (classic interface) whenever you log into your site’s dashboard. This setting will also change the admin bar (the black bar that appears at the top of the screen while you’re logged in.)
To set the style for the admin interface, take the following steps:
- Log into WordPress.com.
- Click on one of your sites from the Sites list.
- Click on the “My Home” button.
- Navigate to Settings → General.
- Scroll down to the “Admin Interface Style” section.
- Choose between:
- Classic style: The classic WP-Admin WordPress interface.
- Default style: The redesigned WordPress.com experience.
- Click the “Save Changes” button.

After making a selection, your admin interface style will update automatically in a few seconds. The “My Home” button from step 3 will change to “WP-Admin” going forward. Switch Views Per-Screen
To change the admin interface of any individual screen, follow these steps:
- Log into your WordPress.com dashboard.
- Visit the specific dashboard page you want to change the view for.
- Click the “View” tab at the top of your screen.
- Select between the “Classic view” and “Default view“.

Did you try the last paragraph where you can change the settings for your Posts or Pages?? Then if you click the arrow next to “Add New Post” you can choose the Classic Editor. That is what I do every time I am adding content to my site.

I tried to follow your last instruction but there was no “View” “Add New Post” “Classic view” or “Default view” or arrow.

@richardmitnick do please try adding a screenshot here. You can use your browser’s “take screenshot” or “copy” and then paste it into the reply box.
If instead you saved the screenshot to your own computer, you need to add the IMAGE block here first by typing
/imageand then uploading the image here.If we can see what’s happening on your screen when you encounter a problem, we can understand the issue better and help you faster. If you are still in the Default view “redesign for a better experience” (HA!) you still should see “view” top right. I wonder if your screen resolution is set on large and the “view” is just out of view?!? That happened to me at work with Sage Accounts. Years ago at a large screen resolution I lost the “save” button and it took me hours to work out what I was doing wrong :)

Well, this is new and not improved, but if you choose the Classic Admin Style in General settings, that VIEW tab disappears along with the Add New Post button with the drop down menu (Block Editor/Classic Editor) and when Adding New Post or page, it’s BLOCK only!
@richardmitnick I think this must be it. Can you go to Settings>General and choose Default under Admin interface style? Remember to click Save Changes. Let us know if that brings back the missing buttons for you.

Good Detective work J I mean @2020testjj. So when you choose Classic in Settings/general you DON’T actually GET classic. How very WordPress.com?!?
-
Well…you get the “Classic Admin Interface” which is a more “Worpdress Dev friendly” environment and is not the same as what we long-time users understand as WordPress.com’s “Classic Interface”. 🤯

Thank you very much for your attempts to help me, but they have all gone for naught. I cannot find any of the items or terms you have pointed to.
I need to somehow get back my Classic Editor.
I have built over 1700 .html templates which I cannot use because they are heavily image laden and the images do not show up, only hypertext which makes them useless. I have a huge image library that I cannot access.
This is all a huge problem for me. I am 83 years old and this blog is my life.
Any more possible help will be appreciated.

That did it!! I got back the option to use the Classic Editor. I really appreciate all the help.
I do not have any more work tonight, but Friday I will have work and I will let you know what happens.
I hope that I can say “thanks ever so much”

Found some work to do and the Classic Editor worked just fine. One problem: how can I get rid of the sales pitch at the top of the post asking me to “remove the banner and unlock more features, from $4/month”?
My profound thanks for all of the help.
You know, a lot of us no our subjects but not all of the intricacies of our tools. We need to be led by the nose like children to get to the right answers.
I had the same problem with “BOINC” where one donates unused CPU and GPU resources to work for real scientists in processing data. I work on four porjects for BOINCand had many problems to getting it running just right.
The process was very much like this process: the.. right person chiming in at just the right time.
For now, all is well again.
Thanks so much for all of the help.

The sales pitch banner has been a fixed feature on newly set up, free WPcom websites for a few years now and was recently backwards rolled out to already existing free WPcom websites. You see the sales pitch when logged in and visitors see “Design a site like this with WordPress.com”. The only way to get rid of it is by upgrading to a paid plan.
You’re welcome and thanks for posting your problem which required a bit of research and led us to a new understanding of that Interface setting. :)
Cheers!

If you’ve lost your classic editor and want to get it back, you can easily restore it by installing the Classic Editor plugin from the WordPress plugin repository. Simply go to your WordPress dashboard, navigate to Plugins > Add New, search for “Classic Editor,” and install and activate the plugin.

@richardmitnick ignore the spam reply from muhammedsaleemadx just above and don’t click on any links.
I’m still seeing the banner on your site as well as on my older, free WPcom websites. If you have other questions about the banner, I’d suggest opening a new forum thread rather than adding to this one.
Since you marked this thread as solved, I’m also requesting staff to close this thread.
Cheers!
