Lost my followers
-
I have a self hosted site, but I belive that jetpack, through wordpress.com stores followers at wordpress.com? I lost 98 followers from grangeriowa.org and don’t know how to get them back.
Although I have a full backup of the site, I cannot restore followers.
Thanks,

Hi there!
I can certainly help you with your Jetpack problem. For future reference, you can contact our Jetpack support team directly from this form:
http://jetpack.me/contact-support/I ran a few tests on your connection and ran into a couple of problems, one which explains where your followers went!
Did you have the grangeriowa.org site on another server and did you move it in the last month or so? If so, the Jetpack installation seems to have kept the old server and blog ID information. Running the blog ID in our system found 95 email followers linked to that ID. The blog ID for the current Jetpack connection brought up 3 email followers, which would equal the 98 that you’re expecting.
The second problem is that I’m getting connection errors from your site to our servers.
To try and fix these problems, can you deactivate the Jetpack plugin, then delete it from your plugins? Once you do that, please reinstall and reconnect Jetpack to your WordPress.com account. Once I can verify your connection is working, then I will be able to move the followers over from the old blog ID to the correct one.
I know that was a lot of information, so let me know if you have any questions. Otherwise, I’ll wait to hear back from you regarding removing and re-adding Jetpack to your site.
Thank you!

Thank you.
Yes, I did move the site from my Dev Server to the its final location.
I typically will create a site on a dev server and then move it. Or, move it the site to the dev server for upgrades and then move it back.
However, I need an SOP for ensuring JetPack gets assigned to the correct Blog ID.OK, I’m finished with the deactivate/uninstall and reinstall and reconnect to wordpress.com
Thank you for your help.

On follow up, the original problem started because blog posts, sent via email, included links to the old dev server. The post title linked to the proper post, however, the “read more of this post” link and author were tied to the dev server.
That problem seems to be consistent with sites either developed or modified on the dev server.
I use BackupBuddy to move sites. Hopefully there is a solution that I can apply consistently when moving sites from the dev server to final location.
Thank you,

Ok, I have sorted out your blog ID problem and have initiated the transfer of your followers to the correct ID.
You will need to just disconnect and reconnect Jetpack to your WordPress.com account to complete the ID fix. It may take a day for all the stats to accurately reflect the transfer.
With regards to your development process, when you’re setting up the site the first time, to avoid moving the blog ID when you move the site to its final location, you will need to exclude and/or delete the jetpack_options row in the wp_options table in your WordPress MySQL database prior to doing the transfer.
For the times when you need to make updates: is that just when WordPress core and any plugins that are installed need to be updated? If that’s the case, I would recommend just having an administrator account set up on each site that you manage so you can login to and process the updates locally. It would cause less issues than transferring back and forth between servers.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you need help with anything else!

Hi Thank you,
Just disconnected and reconnected. I see all the blog followers. beautiful. Thank you.
The times, when I update, I’m actually refreshing the entire site with new layouts, pages, colors and contents. The first site I did this with was GrangerIowa.org – It may have had the wrong Blog ID the entire time, I’m not sure.
But Now I know how to pay attention to such things. Thank you for your assistance.
Best,
