Lost my site :(
-
I’m self-confess “know nothing about WordPress”, but a guy I engaged to do a website for me was setting it up in WordPress, demonstrated it (a half finished site) to me, and left me to it and said I need to do the rest, and then advised all his clients he was no longer looking after their websites. (Charming eh!).
Anyway, I found a new host – as he instructed, who is now hosting the site, but can no longer log into it.
Stands to reason I suppose, but as I say, I don’t know how to use this.
Would my files still be out there somewhere and how can I retrieve them.
This dude has left me one month behind launch date of a product, with now not even the start of a website, which is not impressive to me at all.
Appreciate any advice at all. Thanks -

Thanks raincoaster.
The website was http://www.showercleaningkit.com.au
That’s where I was logging into the site, however the original guy designing the site, asked all his client to make alternate arrangements for hosting, which I’ve done, so if you log into that site now, it’ll show just as my new Hosts page, there is nothing there :( -
Since that is or was a self-hosted installation, you should ask over at http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where the stand-alone self-hosted version of wordpress is supported.

Right now, your web URL is pointing to http://www.webvault.com.au/ . Is that your new web hosting company?
If so, who was the old web hosting company?
-
Yes thats correct, webvault is my new hosting company.
To be honest I don’t know who the web designer had hosting the site previously.
Thanks for the tip on wordpress.org, and for generally trying to help me in my predicament :) -
Had you already entered content into the other site, or was it just a blank wordpress installation?
-
Yes the site was virtually ready to go, all I had to do was add in my Paypal setup and it was all happening. So 90% of the work was done, otherwise I wouldn’t be phased

You need to contact the person and find out where they had it hosted and also get the login information from them to the control panel. If the account is no longer active at that other host, then all that work might be gone. If the account is closed, you will need to contact the host and see if there is anyway they can give you a backup of your entire site including the database.
-
OK, thank you for that.
Meanwhile I have just heard from the guy who was looking after the site and hosting it originally.
He has given me some FTP account info
User Name: (email visible only to moderators and staff) with a password
So he was obviously hosting it thru his own company server I take it.
My new host is trying to help me as well, so I have just sent him the FPT account info, in hopes it makes some sense to him :o)
Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel? LOL -
@ozannie, It is late here so I’m getting ready to sign off. I don’t know how much I can do to help, but go to my site and use the contact form to give me as much detail as you can. http://speesdesign.com/ . I’ve got a small lull between projects and I can at the very least get WP installed at your new host for you. As to your content, that will depend on what you can find out from the other designer.

Hi sacred
Thank you so much, sorry, was just upstairs as I’m about to head out for a few hours.
My new host has offered to put wordpress on the newly hosted site at least.
However, when I’m home I’ll see where he’s at (he works late and is a very helpful chap)
and if I’m still left wondering what to do, I”ll contact you thru your site.
Thank you thank you thank you, that’s lovely of you to offer your assistance and I
really appreciate it.
Meanwhile, sleep well :-)
