Lost our domain?!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey.

The person responsible for renewing our domain screwed up and now it seems we can’t buy it back. We are in talks to expend our brand, and have no website at the moment!

Already sent an email to support. Never heard back.

If anyone knows how we can get our domain back (peoplewhodeserveit.com), your help would be wildly appreciated. Our blog is currently at peopletest.wordpress.com.

failing to renew a domain name means you no longer own that domain name. There is no guarantee you will ever get it back. Among other things and it can be auctioned of or purchased by a domain name squatter who will want you to pay big bucks if you want to get it back. If you fail to renew a domain name we Volunteers are not able to help you.

If you purchased that domain name through WordPress.com please contact Staff again and be patient while waiting. Here’s the link http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After you use the searchbox, under the search results, at the bottom of the page there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

Thanks. We did originally purchase the domain through WordPress. I’ll try contacting them again…

It looks like your old name has been squatted on – the name seems to be linked to a book you published – you probably were getting some traffic – you might be stuck trying to ransom your name back from the squatter – as noted above see if the staff has any good suggestions – maybe @TSP will stop by with other thoughts – but you might need to deal with the squatter – maybe they will give you a discount of some sort – one person I know had the same problem with a domain name – the domain name was part of a trademark – they finally got the name back but there was some ugly legal stuff involved along the way –

    good luck

Or as you have already contacted Staff previously, you could simply wait until they get to your original support request and are able to deal with it.

If it has been squatted by one of the low-life’s then they will want a huge amount of money for it. I’ve seen domain names that were not even very desirable that they have wanted thousands of dollars for.

Not sure if this will help, but…
If you have put time, money effort into your site, then something like that happens, you have the “right” to get it back. Legally…
there is a place called the arbitration forum that you can get to and they will revert your domain back to you. HOWEVER.. this costs 1,500 bucks and a lawyer.
Check it out, Also your domain registration is like the title to a car… regarless of who’s using it/driving it, it’s yours, so you must keep that for yourself or someone trustable to manage it.
link: http://domains.adrforum.com/ ps godaddy.com has it now

If anyone has an idea for me I would appreciate it.
I own a federal trademark on “boston limo” … both federal, state, …
I have stupid competitors, that seem to go online every few years and start up some branding campaigns that compete with me and confuse customers.

I went to setup a wordpress site to “sync” with my website, and others, and seems another one of my silly competitors used my name and is capitalizing on it.

Any way wordpress has a dispute process to resolve someone who got the registered name? like dunkindounuts or wendys or all the major names are branded, and if some simple joe signs up with them, they will be allowed, but how do you get them off and get your name back?

… appreciate your help with this!
