The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Sorry to hear you’re having issues with images. I have confirmed that several of the older blog posts are not displaying images. It seems to be only the 2015 images affected. The alt text or image description is displayed in the blog post, however the image is not.

Or in the cases where the image’s alt text is linked to the image, clicking it leads to a 404 error page. The pages where the alt text is not linked but rather displayed only do have the image url in the html. Even so, those images are also leading to a 404 page when the url is copied and pasted into a new browser.

Have you checked your Media Library? The first step would be to confirm if those images from 2015 still exist in the media library. From your site’s dashboard, choose Media.

If you do have the images there, it may be an issue with your theme or gallery settings. Please check and let us know on this forum thread.

If you upload lots of images you can exhaust that free space allocation quickly. Currently, the only way to get an extra space allocation after you upload the images again, is to purchase an upgrade bundle.

Where were the missing images hosted?

Were they hosted on another site and did you hotlink to them?

Did you are someone with access to your site delete the images from your media library?

If you are hotlinking to images hosted on servers that are not wordpress.COM servers wherever they are hosted can make sure they do not display so you and your site visitors are not using their bandwidth.

Images and media you upload into your media library and embed into posts and pages are on wordpress.COM servers. They remain visible unless or until you delete them from your media library. Deleting them from your media library also removes them from every place you embedded them in the blog and leaves behind broken links.

Staff cannot restore images you delete from your Media Library. You have to upload them all again, and then fix every broken image link in every post/page it was embedded into previously.

  • Hi there,

About a year ago you deleted a large number of images from the media library. As @timethief explained above, if you delete an image from the library, it also removes it from any post where it has been added.

There is no way for us to restored deleted media files, so you’ll have to re-upload those images from your computer, provided you still have the originals.
