Lost theme and customization
-
Hi,
This morning our theme automatically changed from MH Magazine to a default ‘free’ theme and we have lost our sidebar and all the customization done to the site.
Is there a way to restore back the customization the way it was, without having to redo it manually?
Thank you.The blog I need help with is dc37blog.wordpress.com.

Premium themes are a one time purchase for the life of your site on WordPressdotcom and at the moment I do see your above site is using the MH Magazine theme. (temp screenshot)
CSS customization however is part of either the Premium or Business Plan and that needs to be renewed annually. Once you’ve renewed the Plan the customizations should return.

We did renew our business plan yesterday. How long will it take for the customization to return? Our sidebar has disappeared completely and we have lost some of the customized colors.

Hi justjennifer,
Just to give you an update – yesterday (Sept. 19, 2016) when we noticed that our theme and customization had disappeared, we did not think that it was caused by a payment issue, so we manually reapplied our old MH Magazine Theme to our site.
Then we realized it was a payment issue so we renewed our business plan.
However, our sidebar is still missing and we have lost customization of the header and footer, colors etc.
The site looked fine until last week, on Sept. 16, 2016.
Will the old customization (sidebar etc.) come back automatically, or since we manually applied the theme yesterday, or you will you be able to reapply the customization from the date mentioned above i.e. Sept. 16, 2016 when the site looked OK?
Please let us know.
Thank you.

Sorry typo in the last sentence of my previous email.

I don’t know why the CSS customizations would not have been applied until now; usually they return after paying the renewal.
As far as the sidebar, I really don’t know why that would have disappeared.
That is the reason I tagged this for Staff help. They are still here in the forums on a limited basis due to their once a year get together. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

Hi Jennifer,
No, the customization and sidebar are still not showing up. We made the renewal payment last night.

Hi Jennifer,
Will you please expedite this ticket, as it has been almost 24 hrs. and we are still not seeing the sidebar and customization.
The site gets a high traffic, so we would like to resolve this soon.
Thank you.

Hi Jennifer,
We have manually updated our sidebar and customization, so I am closing this ticket/post.
It is unfortunate that we have not heard from your technical staff on this issue.

Hi again. Admittedly, the timing was unfortunate given that Staff were away for their once a year get together at the same time as a significant issue with expired domains. This is not by way of an excuse, but a reason for the delay.
Regardless, I’m leaving this tagged for Staff so that they take note of your feedback.
Best wishes

Hello!
We are working to help everyone as efficiently as possible. If you switch to a theme that uses a different side bar, and then switch back to the previous theme, the order of the widgets will be lost. You would need to manually customize the sidebar again, which I believe you already have done after reading through your replies.
Can I help you out further with these widgets, or with anything else on your site?

@dc372015 It looks to be a bit of a Catch-22 since the Business Plan includes a license for all the Premium themes, and that was my initial misunderstanding. If the Business Plan is not renewed in time, the site apparently reverts to a standard theme and you’d lose your sidebar customization.
However, when any theme is changed (for whatever reason), widgets that have “disappeared” can usually be recovered from the Inactive Widgets section of WP Admin Dashboard>Appearance>Widgets. You just need to drag and drop them back into place.
Hope that helps and best wishes.
