Lost username and password

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I have lost my site’s username and password. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I could not renew my contract with you – $48. It has expired early 2020. My problem is that I cannot edit my site. I need urgent assistance please. Since I do not have my username and password, I cannot do nothing. Please explain what I need to do to re-activate my WordPress editing site. The domain is still active – not a WP domain.

    Hello

Please provide the URL of your website.

  • @pghunting, please find your recent transaction ID, as explained here: https://wordpress.com/support/billing-history/#retrieving-a-transaction-id, and then check out this page and fill out the Account Recovery form to regain access to the account:

    https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/.

Hi Oliwia, Please check the following transaction ID: [redacted by staff]. Will this help? The domain was pghunting (I do not use this one anymore) and was buitenpostco.wordpress.com also at a stage but I requested that it must be transferred or mapped to buitenpost.co.za and you made the transfer for me – Domain Mapping.

  • That was helpful, thank you, but do not post these kinds of details on the public forums in the future. I have removed the ID from your reply.

The transaction ID you shared comes from the account you’re using to post here, meaning you’re already logged in. That said, you can manage your sites
    buitenpostco.wordpress.com and buitenpostco.wordpress.com directly from My Site>Site.
However, if you’re referring to the domain buitenpost.co.za, the mapping subscription has expired, and the domain is pointing to a site hosted elsewhere. If that’s the one you’re trying to access, I’m afraid we can’t help with it. You will want to reach out to your host or check https://wordpress.org/support/forums/.

If there’s something I’m missing here, please let me know more details.

I thought this was private. Sorry. Is it impossible to reactivate the mapping to buitenpost.co.za? Or should I register a totally new account? If so, how do I then get my site over to the new subscription?

I had a discussion with my host and he confirmed that the domain name is buitenpost.co.za. I do not understand that I have worked on buitenpost.co.za for three years now.

Please assist or give me some guidance on how I should approach this. I really will appreciate it immensely – Rgds

  • Hello there,

Happy to help you with this.

Sorry. Is it impossible to reactivate the mapping to buitenpost.co.za?

Yes, you would need to follow these instructions here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

To point the domain to WordPress.com, you would need to change the domain name servers to:

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

    At the domain registrar.

    I hope this helps!

Hi there Adam. Thank you your speedy response and assistance. Please bear in mind that this is not something that I do frequently. I do not know what my master domain is. I think probably “pghunting” I do not know what is linked to what to follow the links in order to make buitenpost (my current domain name) my main working site. Can you perhaps te me what the sequence of events should be? What is linked to what and in detail what I must do. Sorry for bothering you so much. Appreciate.

  • Hi there,

If buitenpost.co.za is the site you’re working on, then that site is not hosted by us. it is using the open-source WordPress software and it’s hosted by vanslife.com. Therefore, you need to contact them regarding the issue you’re having.

Are you looking at moving your site back to us? If that’s the case, then let me know the .wordpress.com of the site you’ll be working on so I can further assist you.
