Lost web site name in trying to use upgrade to remove ".wordpress" from name.
-
I have been blogging for a while. I added a site to the blog. I bought the upgrade package.
Somehow I made the wrong selection in trying to follow the directions to convert to the site name sans “.wordpress”. I may have been distracted at the time. When I logged on to blog this week things did not go well. I manged to blog OK. It did publish. I checked the conversion process and found that only 2 of 3 steps were complete. I went back later to copy the latest blog “PUMPED UP ON PSYCH-K” I could not get to the site. I can’t even get onto the .com site. I keep getting told that the site name is available for sale. I think it belongs to someone in China. At least, that was the information I got from SEDO.
My site name is http//:joyfulwork.wordpress.com I was going for http://www.joyfulwork.com .
Can you reset me so I can work on the site? Can you tell me how to avoid this mistake in the future?
Thanks for your help.
Be well, do some good, have fun,

Hello,
I’m looking into this for you. For the moment, I’ve made it so that http://joyfulwork.wordpress.com/ works again for you. I’ll get back to you soon.

Hello again,
The issue seems to be that the domain joyfulwork.com was registered by someone else in 2008; in our system, you didn’t actually register the domain name, you only mapped it to your WordPress.com site. Since you don’t actually own the domain name, this effectively made your WordPress.com site redirect to that site that you do not own.
I do have one question for you: approximately on what date did you make the change to to your site that caused this problem? Was it recently?
Now, since you purchased a bundle, you still have the possibility of reserving another domain name. For example, I’ve checked for you, and both joyfulwork.net and joyfulwork.me are available. You can register either one from your dashboard, here:
https://joyfulwork.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
I hope that helps; please let me know if I can help you with anything else.
