Lost Website
-
Hello! A rather specific question I really need help with.
Here’s the story.
Years ago when I first created my website my partner at the time did it for me. He purchased my domain name and since our break up did not release or transfer it to me nor will he do so now. He recently let it expire so it is now gone and I cannot purchase/claim it from GoDaddy for 73 days. My question is; the content on it was hosted from WordPress. Can I still access the content anywhere? When I went to my website in the past to make changes I assumed that the name and password I entered were connected to WordPress. But now when I enter those there is nothing found. Do I have any hope of retrieving my information? Thanks so much for any help.

I cannot answer unless or until you provide the relevant .wordpress.COM URL referred to. Please do that now.

I guess I don’t know. My website was alyssasiegel.com. I could go into “sign in/meta” from there to edit the site and that was done/hosted by WordPress. But when I enter the username and password on WordPress that I used to sign into my website there is no account.

What was the underlying .wordpress.com URL that you were mapping from to http://alyssasiegel.com please?

Hi there,
The domain alyssasiegel.com was never linked to a site hosted at WordPress.com, so there’s nothing WordPress.com staff can do to help you regain access to that site.
It sounds like that website was a self-hosted WordPress site using the free software from WordPress.org with another website host. (You can learn more about WordPress.com and WordPress.org if you’d like to know more about the differences.)
It looks like the domain alyssasiegel.com was pointed to GoDaddy, another website host, so your best bet now is to contact GoDaddy support to see if they can help you out with that. Best of luck!
