Hi. In order to assist you, we need the URL of your blog, starting with http:// please. Thanks.

Having the same issue. Only “Search”, “Subscriptions”, and “Meta” are being shown in my sidebar. url is http://gospellens.wordpress.com/. No available widgets are staying in the sidebar and saving there once I move them over.

@gospellens: What is the name of the widget area where you are dragging and dropping those widgets? (Under Appearance > Widgets).
-
Trying to bring in Categories, Links, and Archives. These all existed on my blog with no issues before and I just tried going back to a theme I had been previously using and everything was gone.
-
@gospellens: That’s not what I was asking. Each widget area is clearly marked with a name, usually something like “Primary widget area”. Again, what is the name of the widget area where you are dragging and dropping those widgets?

Log out of wordpress, clear your browser cache and cookies, restart your browser and then go back to appearance > widgets and see if you can drag them out of inactive.
If not, try a different browser to see if it is related to the browser you were using.
Also, what browser and browser version are you having problems with.

What’s happening???!1. How are you connecting to the internet and to WordPress.com? The way you connect to the internet (mobile, satellite, DSL, dial-up) and to your blog, and how many proxy server jumps etc. it takes to connect can cause problems. There maybe be problems with your ISP and/or with the proxy servers. It sounds like there could be a problem with your ISP. Can you access any of these directly?
2. Are you using http:// or https:// see http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/

6. Do you have third party cookies enabled?
7. Do you have JavaScript enabled? http://www.google.com/adsense/support/bin/answer.py?answer=12654
8. Do you have another browser you can try?
9. You can use this link to see if your Flash is up to date. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ If it’s not up to date then this is where to download and install the latest version of Flash. http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
10. Have your tried resetting your router and modem?
11. Have you had any recent operating system and/or security program updates?

I cleared my cached and cookies. And also logout and login. Still doesn’t solve.
At home I’m using Safari and at work I’m using Google Chrome. Had no problems before. Still can’t drag any widgets nor edit the one set up automatically on my sidebars. Can’t even do it from Internet ExplorerWhat happened? Been using wordpress for years and this is the first time it doesn’t work!
-
Are you having the issue with both browsers? I’m on Safari and have no problems.
As a temporary fix, while on the appearance > widgets page, click the screen options tab at top right and activate accessibility mode which will put “add” links in the available widgets and “edit” links in the widgets in the sidebar panel so that you can edit them.
-
@thesacredpath : I don’t think its issues with browser. I think its issue with WordPress! I’ve used 3 different browsers and still can’t resolve the widget problem.
Anyone from wordpress can help? Or is the a problem with the theme I’m using?
-
Opera, Safari, Firefox on my Mac, no problems. I tried it on three of my test blogs.
Given no one else is reporting this, I don’t think it is a WordPress issue. The widget administration is not theme dependent. It is part of wordpress core.

I used Google Chrome and I.E on Windows and Safari on Mac. All same problems.
@gospollens (http://gospellens.wordpress.com/) was complaining about the same issue (see earlier messages). I don’t think I’m the only one.

I am using Firefox 8 and Internet Explorer 8 and I can see an About her text widget, an Archives widget and Meta widget on this blog http://shalizamokhtar.wordpress.com
-
@timetheif : Of course you can see them. But that’s the thing, I didn’t set it up like that and I can’t seem to adjust that under Widget!!
-
I seem to be having this issue as well. I’ve had multiple people open the blog around the state and everyone is seeing the same thing. For some reason a “Wide Side Bar” option has been added to the theme and my “Right Side Bar” and “Left Side Bar” are missing from the page, though they do still exist in the Widget menu and set up just as we had them before.
No changes to theme have been made in months and I’ve tried deleting today’s post to no avail. The weird thing is, I can’t even add any widgets to this new “Wide Side Bar”. I can drop widgets in, but they never have any effect on it.

Help requested for http://www.thebreathofthespirit.wordpress.com
I edited the About tab, and it is listed as published. But it doesn’t show up on either Firefox 8 or on IE 8.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
