Lost WordPress Account
-
I took over a position in a company with a WordPress website right in the middle of switching over to godaddy and right after a website upgrade to PHP 7.2 However when I tried to use the auto-migration tool, I realized that the WordPress login information I have doesn’t work. I tried to recover the password and in the process of changing the password, I somehow created a new account with the same user name. I believe this shouldn’t be possible if that username is already being used, am I wrong? I NEED help!

It sounds like you’ve created an account here in WordPress.com, while another exists on the site you’re editing. That site isn’t part of the WordPress.com hosting network, and so the user database isn’t shared. They are both with the same username like you can pick the same username in Twitter and in Instagram, for an example.
These pages are helpful to learn how to overcome login issues on WordPress powered sites not hosted at WordPress.com:

You’ll want to use the forums at https://wordpress.org/support/ for any support on managing your site. Hope that helps to point you in the right direction!
