Lots of pages Site building Question

  Hello,

  I am brand new to using wordpress. And i am trying to build a new website for the company i work for.

  We have somewhere around 200-300 Products that we sell. Now we aren’t a retail store, we are the distributor, so im not trying to make an ecommerce site.

  But all of our customers come to our website to find technical information and get questions answered before they buy.

  My question is, since we have so many products, seperated by main categories, and sub categories, Im trying to figure out what would be the best way to make and keep organized something like that.

  Should i make category pages as a “Page” and the products as “Posts”

  Im confusing myself and going down rabbit trails and getting no where. any experienced advice would be extremely helpful.

  For a site like what you’ve described, you might be better served having a self-hosted WordPress site where you can fully take advantage of of Custom Post Types. With custom post types, you can create one or more product post types where you can include the meta information you need, without them looking like regular blog posts.

  You can learn a bit more at the WordPress codex, http://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Types and a google search will get you more information and instructions, as well as plugins to make it easier.
