Lots of questions! :)
-
Hi. New to this whole wordpress thing, and blogging too actually. I have decided to use wordpress as my portfolio site, as its actually surprisingly flexible. Heres what I have managed to put together so far: http://artbyandreas.wordpress.com/
So I have a few questions. First off, say I eventually want to seek work in another country, and I want the site to be navigateable for people who speak another language. Could I do something like can be seen in the top left of this webpage? (mild artistic nudity warning, maybe NSFW)
By this I mean the flag buttons. I wouldn’t use babel fish, I would translate everything myself. If I wanted it at the top of the page, would that mean editing the actual theme? Is that possible? And say I wanted the text to change language (and characters, incidentaly!) without reloading the page, would that be possible?
OK second problem. How did this artist go about this?
They seem to be thumbnails that link somewhere else on the blog. But to where? Hidden pages? Is it possible to have pages without having them appear in the pages list?
I also want to have the Archives and Categories section not appear on my blog, how do I hide these?
Thanks in Advance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Re your second question: those are the so-called attachment pages. See here:

Uploading and inserting images: the three (plus one) link options
Re your third question: Appearance > Widgets > add the widgets you really want > click Save Changes.

If you add any widget to your sidebar and save changes, it’ll wipe out the default set, including Categories and Archives.
Those are just images that are linked to specific posts; write the posts, then you can put an image in a different post, click to select it, and add a link just as if you were going to add a link to some text. You can also add the link under Advanced Settings when you edit a picture.
No, the flag buttons can’t be used, but there is a translation workaround:

OK so attachment pages…did he make his thumbnails himself or does the attachment pages feature do that for you…?
