Lovecraft Theme Header Image Dimensions

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all,
I’m just beginning to build using the Lovecraft theme, which recommends a header image of 1280 x 444 pixels. I spent more time than I care to admit creating a bordered graphic in Photoshop that is precisely these dimensions; I then uploaded it, entered the crop viewer thing (where it fit perfectly) and then confirmed that I wanted to use it as my header image. Once it appeared on the webpage, the top and bottom were shaved off so that the frame I built into my image is cut off! It looks pretty bad.
I was wondering why this occurred although my image precisely matches the theme’s specification, and how the issue might be remedied. Thanks for all your help!

It looks like I’m unable to edit my previous submission, so I’ll just note that the web link in the original query is outdated and not relevant to my current issue! I would post the new site’s link but it’s currently empty, am trying to resolve this graphical issue before proceeding further

  • Hello @kfbalka,

Please try creating the image in 1280 x 444, but keep the borders within 1280 x 350 or smaller.

I checked this theme, and it shows that the viewable area is within 350px height. Screenshot here – https://i.imgur.com/mzY0H6p.png

Most images have the safe area (350px height for this case). You may be asked for image sizes bigger than the viewable area to make sure that there will be no blank spaces.

Let me know how it goes.

    Regards,
    Rose

Thanks so much, Rose! I did as you suggested and it fit like a glove! Now I’m curious, is there a way for me to see the viewable area specs of any given theme? I’m interested in doing the same with the header image in the Twenty Eleven theme. Can you provide me with the dimensions of the viewable area for that one too? I promise to stop pestering! :)

  • You’re welcome. :)

Twenty Eleven is 1000×288, see here – https://i.imgur.com/Qz7rF6j.png

I only use Chrome to check this. See instructions below.

    1. From my website, I right-click using my mouse the area I wanted to check the size.
    2. Then I select “Inspect.” Screenshot here.
    3. Something will come up at the bottom or left side of Chrome. This is the code for the website.
    4. As I hover texts from the code, it will also highlight which it points to from the website, and would show the dimension too. See screenshot here. *The dimension for this is in the tiny box at the upper right hand side of the image where it says, “img|1000×288”

Let me know if you have further questions.

    Regards,
    Rose
