LoveCraft theme. Menus behave differently.

  • Unknown's avatar

I created this Blog with Love theme and I noticed when I hover over the menu I see right away all lower level submenus.
    I have another Website https://educationwithoutborders597714571.wordpress.com/
    created with LoveCraft theme also.
When I hover over the menu I see only the fist level of submenu and only when I hover over the submenu I see the second level of submenu.
I do not understand why my second site’s menu behaves differently. Probably I have changed a setting somewhere but I cannot find the setting. I appreciate your help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

I created this Blog with Love theme and I noticed when I hover over the menu I see right away all lower level submenus.

Is it a theme or a website that you’re referring to. If a website, then what’s the address (URL)?

As I said those are two Websites (Blogs) created using WordPress with theme Lovecraft.
The first Blog has the menus behavior as I want. I see the submenus only if I hover at the Parent level menu.
    This is the Blog https://educationwithoutborders597714571.wordpress.com/

The other Blog has all submenus expanded as soon as I click on the Home Menu icon. This is not the desired behavior.
    This is the blog

Welcome to ITQA digital products -Under construction

Not sure what I did different on the settings. Both blogs utilize the Lovecraft theme from WordPress .
    I appreciate your help.

    Thanks.

The other Blog has all submenus expanded as soon as I click on the Home Menu icon. This is not the desired behavior.
    This is the blog
    https://angelosdproducts.wordpress.com/

I see what you mean on the other site, but not on this site. I had looked at https://angelosdproducts.wordpress.com/ previously and just checked it again. I find that clicking on the “Home” menu item merely reloads the page with no change, and that no sub-menu items appear until I hover over the top-level item “Photo Sets and License.”

I’ll call for staff attention. Perhaps they can provide and explanation. Staff will respond here.

This is the statement that confused me previously: “I created this Blog with Love theme…” It sounds like you’re referring to the creation of a theme called “Blog with Love.” Evidently you meant to say that you created a blog with the Lovecraft theme.

  • Hi there,

I see no difference in how the menu works between those two sites.

On https://angelosdproducts.wordpress.com/ there are no second-level sub-menus. The only main menu item that has a sub menu is Photo Sets and License, and none of the items in that menu has further sub menus.

On https://educationwithoutborders597714571.wordpress.com/ you have several main menu items with sub-menus, which correctly expand on hover, and some of those have sub-sub-menus which also correctly expand on hover. Those sub-sub menus are not supposed to expand when you hover over the main menu item, but only when you hover over their immediate parent item.

So everything here is working as it’s supposed to.

as soon as I click on the Home Menu icon

What icon? I don’t see any icon on your menu. For the Home item on the menu it shows the text “Home”, and clicking that reloads the front page, as it’s supposed to, without any menus expanding.

It might help if you can take a screen shot of what you’re seeing. Upload it to the media library at My Site ->Site ->Media, and I’ll be able to see it there.

Partially you are right. Suppose my Top menu Digital Inventory has Submenu PhotoSets and Licence and then Submenu the theme-photo sets individual pages I fixed the site and my apologies for that. However the main problem is still there. I did some further investigation and I found that the Menu behaves as expected if I use Microsoft Explorer but when I use Chrome all menus are expanded permanently althought I do not hover over them. In Chrome this happened as soon as I click the Main Menu (I believe they call it hamburger button . It has 3 lines). I will add screenshots in few minutes as per your instructions.
Thank you for all your support.

I uploaded the printscreens on my media. Looking forward to hear from you. Thanks again

    @itqaserv,

but when I use Chrome all menus are expanded permanently [although] I do not hover over them. In Chrome this happened as soon as I click the Main Menu (I believe they call it

    hamburger button

    . It has 3 lines).

The hamburger icon (aka three-bar icon) only appears when viewed on a small screen, such as a that of a mobile device, on the Lovecraft theme. The horizontal navigation menu that appears on a larger screen is replaced by a vertical menu that is hidden by the hamburger icon. This is perfectly normal behavior for that theme. The transformation of the menu is due to the theme’s responsiveness with respect to screen size.

You’ll see exactly the same behavior on the header nav menu of the Lovecraft demo.

I found that the Menu behaves as expected if I use Microsoft Explorer.

What version of Explorer? See the warning regarding Internet Explorer in the Supported Browsers section of the Browser Issues support page.

  • @musicdoc1 is correct. What you’re describing is the expected behaviour of the mobile menu for this theme, which means you’re either using a very small screen, or your browser window is zoomed in, making Chrome treat the page as if it’s loading on a smaller screen instead.

Try pressing Ctrl-0 while viewing the site. That should clear any zoom settings for the specific page.

But when you do see the hamburger button instead of a horizontal menu, all submenus expanding automatically when you click that button is the expected behaviour, and how that particular menu is supposed to work. This is because that menu is created for touch screens where you can’t hover over a menu item as you can when using a mouse.

    @kokkieh,

all submenus expanding automatically when you click that button is the expected behaviour, and how that particular menu is supposed to work.

Thanks, chief. I forgot to explain that part. : -)

Thank you both. This solved the mystery.
    Thanks again.

    You’re welcome : -)
