<a title=””> isn’t working
-
I’m trying to create a little popup text box that opens when a user hovers over a word on my blog page. The most simple way I found to do this is using html (please see my html below, http://ensellopedia.com/chally-candidate-testing/). In my Visual page editor it works perfectly, but when I View my page, it doesn’t. Any ideas why not?
Thank you!

When you post code here, post it between backticks so it displays properly. You can copy them from the “You can also put code in between backtick ( ` ) characters” below the post box.

To show the code you are pasting, use backticks before and after it. The backtick is the sort of backwards apostrophe on the same key as the tilde ~ like this ( ` ).
See the note at the bottom of the forum here.

Also: if you have pop-up blocker running, as most Firefox and IE users do, of course even if it works, you’ll never know it.

Like right now, if I hover my cursor over Log Out in my Dashboard, a little grey box says Log Out. How do I do THAT?
-
Oops, I forgot the ‘ again:
I’m talking about the
<a title="...">within the list. Its not so much a popup, but when you hover over “profile” the text (“PROFILE SKILLS: … “) shows up when I’m in the VISUAL page editor window. However, when I go to VIEW the page, it doesn’t do that.Like right now, if I hover my cursor over Log Out in my Dashboard, a little grey box says Log Out. How do I do THAT?

Sorry, I didn’t finish my editing.
<a title="hover text here" href="URL_link">your visible text here</a> -
I don’t want it to link to any URL, I just want the hover text to show up. When you view my html code above, you can see that I already have
<a title="PROFILE SKILLS: ... ">profile</a>for each Sales Rep profile. But, the hover text doesn’t show when I view the page. Am I missing something? Do I have to have an href in there? Why does the hover text show in my EDIT PAGE – VISUAL but not when I VIEW PAGE?I’m sorry if I’m repeating myself, I’m just trying to explain as best as possible.

As far as I’m aware, yes, you have to have an href in there, in other words a destination to make it a real link. The title is just one quality of a link.
-
Actually, if you do not want the text linked to anything, but want a tool tip type hover box this solution is better:
<a href="#" title="hover text here">your visible text here</a>The “#” will produce a broken link so the text will not lead anywhere when clicked. Another way is the following:
<a href="http://growthresource.wordpress.com/" onclick="return false;" title="hover text here">your visible text here</a>The above will work as a text link, but the onclick=”return false” keeps it from going anywhere.
