<more> tag not functioning correctly

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello everyone, hope your day is going well.

    I’ll start this out by saying that while my HTML is rust, I’m getting it back, though I do have issues at times. Unfortunately, this is one of those times. I’m trying to [obviously] blog and since it’s a ridiculously long post I wanted to throw in a <more> tag. I followed all the instructions, customized the tags, etc, but it’s not actually splitting the post. I published the post here so that people could look at the code. I’m using the “Thirteen” theme, no CSS mods.

    I find it extremely weird though that splitting worked on another post three-four days ago, and now it’s not.

    For help here’s the basic code [there’s a lot more to the post but it’s incredibly long]:

    Late last year Oklahoma voted into law <a title=”PDF of law” href=”http://www.sos.state.ok.us/documents/Legislation/52nd/2009/1R/HB/1595.pdf” target=”_blank”>a measure</a> that would force doctors to <a title=”Salon article” href=”http://www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/feature/2009/10/07/okla_abortion/” target=”_self”>collect private medical information</a> about women who have abortions. This was widely decried and protested by pro-choice organizations around the country, such as <a title=”FfC article” href=”http://feministsforchoice.com/new-oklahoma-abortion-law-being-challenged.htm” target=”_self”>Feminists for Choice</a> and the fine people at <a title=”Jezebel” href=”http://jezebel.com/5376502/new-oklahoma-law-will-put-details-of-all-abortions-online” target=”_self”>Jezebel</a>.

    This law would have collected forms that gathered the <!–more following information:–>

    <ul>
    <li>Date of abortion</li>
    <li>County in which abortion was performed</li>
    <li>Age of mother</li>
    <li>Marital status of mother [married, divorced, separated, widowed, or never married]</li>
    <li>Race of mother</li>
    <li>Years of education of mother [specify highest year completed]</li>
    <li>State or foreign residence of mother</li>
    <li>Total number of previous pregnancies of mother [live births, miscarriages, induced abortions]</li>
    <li>Approximated gestational age in weeks, as measured from the menstrual cycle of the mother, of the unborn child subjected to abortion</li>
    <li>Method of abortion used:</li>
    </ul>

    Thank you so much for any and all help you can give to me, I really appreciate the work you all do here.

    It’s not the more tag: your post displays your html. Apparently you worked that out in a text editor, then pasted it into the Visual post editor. You’ll have to switch your editor to HTML and paste the whlole thing there.

    *laughs* I did that on purpose so people could see the code, for troubleshooting. I’ve *that exact code* into the HTML editor and it just broke. No more tag, it just blanks out the “following information” and continues on as if nothing has happened.

    You did that on purpose? Thanks a lot!… For troubleshooting, we look at the source code of the page (which isn’t always identical to what you see in the html editor, by the way). If you want help, go publish a normal post please.

    For what it’s worth at the moment, the customized more tag should be like that:
    <!--more YourTextHere-->

    Eh? I was under the impression that … oh, never mind. I’ll just edit it to force it to recognize the HTML.

    AAAND done. So I just switched it from being in the visual editor to the HTML one, and that is the result of that. As you can see, the <more> tag isn’t showing up.

    ‘<!–more–>’

    ‘To customize the message, simply add a space after <!–more, and turn it into something like this…

    <!–more But wait, there’s more–>`

    As I can see, the more tag shows up and works alright now that you pasted the correct html for it:

    The backtics I used above were used only so the code would display without executing.

    @panaghiotisadam – That’s horrifically strange because when I looked at it after posting, it wasn’t working correctly.

    Maybe I’m haunted.

    [thank you guys for helping out!]

    Maybe you looked at the single omplete post instead of the main page. Or maybe you’re using the horrifically strange creature called Explorer.

    <!–more–> tag is not shown on preview, you can see how it works only on the published post.
    May be this the problem (?)

    Okay so I’m just a giant doofus and didn’t realize that looking at the *post* instead of the page would b0rk things up.

    Thanks again, everyone. I do appreciate the help!
