Made a mess

    Hi

I am beginner to WordPress, I want to start a simple blog. I think I made a mistake by choosing ‘website builder’ or the ‘org’ option. I then then tried transferring to shared hosting. I already paid once and it asked me to pay again.
I tried importing my blog by going tools > import but I keep getting ‘not found’ error when I go to my old blog.
I am confused. I don’t want to pay again if possible but want to have the shared hosting option. I don’t care if my progress gets deleted I don’t have any serious content so I don’t technically need to import the stuff from my old blog I just don’t want to pay again, if possible. (I want the simple 4usd plan)

    Hopefully you can help me.
    Thank you,
    Joanna.

  • Hi there,

What’s your current blog address so I can have a look and further help you?

Also, I want to point out that WordPress.com is a different hosting provider than the one you’re currently on. So, there’s no need to keep paying for two hosting plans. Once you move your site here, you’ll be able to cancel your current hosting.

    Hi,

So now I happen to have two sites, I believe one must be org and the other one com. I believe once I transferred from org to com, I couldn’t import my old blog so I just opened a new one and then backed out when I was asked to pay.

Here’s the links to both sites:

    https://wordpress.com/view/blondietravels234532376.wordpress.com
https://box5586.temp.domains/404.html (This one I am not able to even open, the not found error pops up and thats the one that I paid for and wanted to import)

Hope this all makes sense, thank you for your efforts.

    Joanna,

  • Hi @joannanowak015aada756,

Yes, it looks like you have both WordPress.com and Bluehost sites. While both run WordPress, there’s a difference between each, which you can learn more about here: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/#overview-of-options

If you’re looking to migrate your content to WordPress.com, I suggest following this guide: https://transferto.wordpress.com/self-hosted-wordpress-org/2/

You’ll need to be able to access your WordPress.org site to be able to export its content. If you need help with that, I suggest reaching out to Bluehost support.

Just let me know if there’s anything I can help clarify.

    Hi, thanks for the response.

I definitely want to stick to WordPress.com.

To be honest, I don’t need to export anything from my .org blog as it doesn’t have any important content as I only just started with it. And I am unable to access it anyway.

I just want to get rid of my .org and use the .com but I want to only pay for one if possible. Will it be possible to get a refund from my .org (its been less than 2 weeks) and just pay for my .com website or is there any other way that I can only pay for one?

    Thank you for your help.
    Joanna,

  • Hi Joanna,

You’ll need to contact support at Bluehost.com to cancel your hosting with them, and find out if you’re still eligible for a refund for what you paid to them.

Note that if you’ve bought a domain from them as well, and you want to continue using that, you shouldn’t cancel that. Only cancel your hosting plan. Then you can point the domain to your site with us instead, and transfer it to us completely once you’ve owned it for at least 60 days.

  • Forgot to add – if you decide to buy an annual plan with us, a domain transfer for one domain is included for free, so once your Bluehost domain becomes eligible for transfer, you won’t need to pay us anything extra to complete that process.

Alternatively you can also use the free domain in the plan to register a new domain directly with us.
