Made changes to parent theme now want to use child theme
-
Hiya,
I am wondering if you can help with a little problem.
Before I discovered how to use a child theme or what a child theme was, I installed the parent theme ‘Metro Pro’ that runs on Genesis.
I made changes directly to the parent theme. I did not directly make changes to the CSS or code myself. I just used the appearance options and widget options to change things on the parent theme.
I have now uploaded the child theme and activated it, this has cleared all the changes I had made on the parent theme. So I switched back to the parent them layout temporarily until I figure out what to do.
Now I am stuck. As I have a child theme that I would like to start using to make changes safely, but I have changes on my parent theme that I wanted to keep.
All I have done on my parent theme is make it exactly like the Metro Pro theme demo.
Could you help me with what to do to make sure I can activate the child theme and keep the changes I had in the parent theme?
Just to clarify, I have never gone to the style sheet in the parent theme and changed any code myself or added anything to the stylesheet. I have purely gone to Appearance- Widgets, or appearance- customize to make changes in the parent file to make it look exactly like the metro pro theme and add my personal touches.
My site now looks like this http://www.freedomfromthenorm.com due to making changes to the parent theme, which I want to look exactly the same in the child theme.
Thanks in advance for your help,
