Mail cannot work with map domain
-
Hi, last year I’ve purchased a map domain upgrade and site navigation always work correctly. But it wasn’t a good idea because for sometimes get error and trouble with email. My maintainer is register.it, so to let’s work map domain I’ve got change DNS record and register declared with these changes mail service don’t work.
But in this year email worked with any problems, but often worked.
Now I’ve changed internet provider at my home office and discover that support SMTP service only for his domain and not mine (massaggiocaliforniano.net). So now is impossible send mail.
I’ve contacted register.it about an authenticated SMTP service specific for these cases, but told me cannot work with my domain because DNS records changed.
I’de like to move my domain from register to wp.com, but just now I discovered I can purchase a new one but cannot transfer mine. It’s true? How can I do?
Thank you,

Hi Loris,
It’s true that WordPress.com does not accept incoming domain transfer so you will not be able to transfer your domain registration from Register.com to WordPress.com.
Regarding the issue you describe, can you explain a bit more? If I understand correctly, you changed your DNS settings at WordPress.com. However, Register.com is telling you that these settings will not work. Is that correct? You should be able to input your DNS settings at WordPress.com and have your email address work correctly.

Hi Jeremey,
I read your answer just now because these days was traveling.I changed DNS records on Register.it to allow redirection for web navigation to wp.com. After doing this, mail stopped work, but from wp support staff, suggest me to add DNS records (like MX record) in wp.com domain management. After this, email work correctly. Rarely get some trouble only in outgoing.
Last week I’ve changed internet provider that not allow to send emails except with its domain. Now is impossible send email.
I’ve contacted register.it to purchase an authenticated SMTP service designed specifically for user with ISP like mine. But register.it reply me that email cannot work because I’ve changed DNS records and they provide email service only with register.it default DNS records. So now I receive mail but cannot reply because email cannot go out.
Hope to clarify well my trouble, if you need more information, please tell me.
Thank you,
Loris -
Another issue I’ve forget, maybe can be important.
from my iPhone, outgoing mail outgoing correctly without problems.

Hey Loris,
So, I believe what is happening is that Register.it only supports DNS records when you have your domain hosted with them as well, not when you have your domain pointed to WordPress.com. In that instance, like you did before, the records will need to be input into the WordPress.com domain management area in order for them to work correctly.
Just to be clear, your new internet provider only allows emails to be sent when you use their email service. Is that correct? Can you let me know the name of your ISP?

Hi there,
Judging by the Register.it support page here, it seems like you’re correct:
http://www.register.it/email/smtp.html
The SMTP service for Register.it will only work when your domain is pointed to Register.it, not when it is pointed to WordPress.com. In that case, your best option may be to move to a different email provider like Google apps:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-email-through-google-apps/
I realize this is a bit of a cumbersome experience. However, it might be best in the long haul.
Alternatively, you could continue to use Register.it as your email provider and enable SMTP through them. However, instead of using name servers to point your domain to WordPress.com, you could use A records. This isn’t traditionally recommended as our IP addresses for WordPress.com could change at any moment, which would bring your site down until the IP addresses are correct. However, pointing your domain name servers to Register.it would allow you to have all of your email settings there and still use your domain with WordPress.com. Does that make sense?
If you’d like to go that route, here are the current IP addresses for WordPress.com:
76.74.254.120 66.155.9.238 192.0.80.250 192.0.81.250 66.155.11.238 76.74.254.123Please make sure you enter at least 2 IP addresses for your domain to work correctly.
Let me know if you need any further clarification!

Hi, I’ve taken time to think what about to resolve this problem because it’s a little complex take a decision.
Maybe the best can be pass through Google but I’ve saw the cost per 1 email address is 50€ a year, in my case for 2 addresses is 100€.
Remapping in the way you describe above the cost of purchasing of a register.it SMTP authenticated is only 19€ per year: more cheap.
But for me is difficult to catch when the IP addresses change, because I’m not a blogger so visit my site not often and maybe can spend few weeks to realize my site is down.In the other side I need to purchase a new domain for the other blog esalencalifornianmassage.wordpress.com that’s the same of massaggiocaliforniano.net in english language.
My paper-based communication tools (brochure and business card) report my emai address (email visible only to moderators and staff), and during at least 1 year, I need using this one.
I can change the other one address (my personal) with a new one new domain, and during transfer can use register.it webmail (now appear working well). At the same time using brera@… with Google paying 50€.But…
if I change records how you describe to work with Google, the register.it webmail can work at the same time?Another question: can I purchase a new domain directly with wordpress.com? And if after I want to migrate to wordpress.org, can transfer my new domain too?

Hi!
Please see my answers below:
if I change records how you describe to work with Google, the register.it webmail can work at the same time?
No – if you setup your email address with Google Apps as mentioned here, your Register.it email will no longer work:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-email-through-google-apps/
The reason being is that for your Google Apps email to work, you’ll need to point your name servers to WordPress.com, which would then render your Register.it email not functional. Does that make sense?
Can I purchase a new domain directly with wordpress.com? And if after I want to migrate to wordpress.org, can transfer my new domain too?
Yep! You can definitely purchase a new domain at WordPress.com following the instructions here:
Then, if you wanted to transfer the domain elsewhere in the future, you could do so following the instructions here:
Please note, you would not be able to transfer the domain for the first 60 days after registration. After 60 days however, you can transfer it wherever you would like!
