Mail invite does not work
-
I have tried to send user invites (as both administrator and author) to an email account, but no email has arrived. So, the other party cannot join and post on the blog.
I have logged into the target account myself, and I know that it’s up and working, able to receive email from other sources.
Any way this can be fixed?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Do you see the pending invite in the Invite New section of your site’s WP Admin Dashboard?

If the recipient is using a Gmail account, please see these troubleshooting suggestions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/email-notifications/gmail-issues/
If that is not the issue, then please return here and add the MODLOOK tag to the Tags section of the forum thread sidebar to receive staff assistance.

Thank you jsutjennifer!
I tried everything in https://en.support.wordpress.com/email-notifications/gmail-issues/ : Google tabs works, there is no filter, the email isn’t in spam, I’m testing from a different account, and the email I send is automatic (a join request from WordPress), so I have no control over the placement of periods.
I have placed the MODLOOK tag.

Hey there Alvin,
What is the WordPress.com username of the user you are trying to invite? I was not able to find their account based off the e-mail you sent an invitation to.
One of the more common reasons for an invitee not receiving e-mails is that they have blocked WordPress.com from sending them emails. I wanted to check and see if their notification settings are set to block e-mails from WordPress.com.
Let me know if you know their username and I can look into the issue for you.
Thanks!

I’m certain that he doesn’t have a WordPress.com ID.
So, this means that all members (authors, etc) of a blog must have a WordPress.com username? If true, that’s the problem methinks.
A bit of a shame though if true, as that’s an extra hoop to jump through.

Hey there,
Not having an account yet wouldn’t be a reason why they didn’t receive the e-mail. If they do not have a WordPress.com account already, the e-mail says to sign up for one before accepting the invitation.
However, if they do have an account, blocking WordPress.com would be one reason why they did not receive the invite. So, assuming the e-mail you sent is spelled correctly and that the invitee doesn’t already have a WordPress.com account, have you already attempted to resend the e-mail? If you have to no avail, I will report the issue internally so we can find the root of the issue.
Thanks!

Yep, I sent a resent request from the blog: no joy.
Then, I sent a blank email from another account: happiness!Something’s off. It isn’t an urgent matter to me now, as I’ll come up with some workaround or other which doesn’t require the other user to get a WordPress.com account to the blog: but the technical issue hasn’t been solved, so it’s worth chasing down as an internal issue.
(At least the invitee should receive an email, saying that he should sign up for a WordPress.com account!)

Hello again,
Just to clarify, here’s what it says in an email invite from donotreplyATwordpressdotcom:
To accept this invitation you will need to:
1. Signup for a WordPress.com account (<link to sign up for account). You can also sign in with your existing WordPress.com account if you already have one.
2. Accept Invitation(<special link to activate the connection)
Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, there really isn’t a workaround to inviting someone to your blog. The “Accept Invitation” link is keyed to making the connection from their WordPressdotcom account and your site.

OK.
Well, if the invite problem is solved, I hope someone will give me a shout on this thread!

Hey there,
Okay, I have an idea. You can invite a user via their e-mail address or their username. I would have the person you’re trying to invite create their username and password first and then try to re-invite them via their username as opposed to their password to see if that makes a difference.
We’d most likely be able to track the invite better once their account is created. Let me know if that works, thanks!

Hi,
After the user got a WordPress.com login and created his on (blank) blog, the invite worked!
So, as you told me previously, I can only invite people who already have an account at WordPress.
Thanks for the help!

Hi again – the problem you originally described was that the person you invited never received the email to begin with.
Just to clarify, you are saying that once they already had a WordPressdotcom account, they then received the email you sent through WordPressdotcom?
If so, this points to a very odd change in inviting new users.

As staff-doublebassd said:

-
Not exactly:
First, he got a WordPress.com account.
Then, I sent an invite to his email address.
Then, he received the invite at his email address. Before he got the WordPress.com account, my invite to his email address had no results at all. I think that he should have gotten an invite to join WordPress.com

Hey Alvin,
I think that is coincidental, for we have been working on the invitation system internally for the past several weeks. I think the fix must’ve happened around the same time the user you invited created their WordPress.com account.
Either way, I am happy to hear that they finally received the invite successfully!
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
