mailchimp widget

    Hello,
Our web site already has an existing email list for current civic associationmembers.
We would like to create a mailchimp account and add the wordpress.com widget to our web site.
Can we simply add the email addresses of our existing members to our mailchimp account and then create the mailchimp widget popup for our web site?
Would these existing members then receive our newsletter or would they have to go to the effort of resubscribing on our web site?
    Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

From the Mailchimp site, it looks like you can import subscribers so that they do not have do anything on their end to resubscribe to your blog. So, once you add your existing followers to your Mailchimp account, you should be good to go.

    Thank you, Darnell!

If you don’t mind my asking you a question on another topic, I would appreciate your thoughts on this:

We have a PayPal button on the top right hand side of the front page.
We are using a specified dollar amount – $10.00 for an individual member of our civic assn.

Does wordpress have any way or any plans to enable this button to have a drop down where there are more options?
For example we have community business members of our civic association at a different membership donation amount.
And we would like, if possibly, to enable those members to use the same button if possible.

    Thanks, again,
    Evelyn

  • Hi there,

We do not allow the PayPal dropdown option on WordPress.com blogs because it uses form code, a code that is automatically stripped from WordPress.com sites for security reasons.

This is what a fellow staff member mentioned many users do as an alternative:

What most people do is clearly outline the different amounts payable for the different services. Then users insert the correct amount themselves when they’re on PayPal. For control on your side you can then add a contact form where users can indicate which service they bought (you can add a drop-down to the contact form for that purpose) and also add a text field where they can paste the receipt number from PayPal so you can check. See here for instructions on adding a contact form: https://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/

    Thanks!
