Mailto in Social Links Menus
-
Hey there,
Many of us have set up contact forms on our sites in order to avoid spambots collecting our email addresses from mailto links.
With the increased use of Genericons, would it be possible to link the mail icon to a contact form rather than a mailto link (and still have a mail icon and not the share icon)? If not possible, is our email address obfuscated in some way by WPcom?
Thanks!

Hi JenT,
Using custom CSS, you can pair any Genericon with any link in the Social Links Menu.
As an example, I created a Social Links Menu on a test blog with the theme Willow. I added to the menu a custom link to a contact form page. It got a WordPress genericon by default:
Add the custom CSS to change the genericon from ‘f205’ to ‘f410’ which is Mail.
The only thing that may change from this is example is the CSS selector. Choosing the best selector really just depends what links you include in your social links menu. But in general you can change up Genericons using CSS.
Obfuscating a mailto link just by linking it through a Genericon, however, would not be possible.
Best,

@alexjgustafson – Since I won’t be paying $99 just to change an icon, the WP genericon is good enough for me. Either that or I’ll use a throwaway email address with an obfuscator.
Thanks for the detailed answer nonetheless.
