Main Menu and Sub Menu Font Colors Wrong

  • Unknown's avatar

    I am using the Hum template. All my menus work fine, color-wise, except for the one that has submenus (What is LilliPOP?). Two things occur:
    1. When I select a submenu, the font color of the main menu turns black instead of remaining #4977a6.
    2. When I hover over a submenu, the font color is dark orange instead of the normal hover color, #f7941e.
    Are there code snippets out there that could fix? Thanks so much!

  • Hi there Sharon,

    When I visit your site and hover over that menu item, I see the colors correctly (I don’t see the main menu item turn black – it stays blue when I move over the submenu; and when I mouse over the submenu items, they turn dark orange).

    Did you get this sorted out?

    Cheers!

    Hello and thanks for answering my question!
    You have to actually click on the submenu so that it takes you to the sub page, then you’ll see that the main menu font title turns black. Or at least that’s what I see.

    And yes, they submenu items does turn dark orange, but they’re not the right orange! The branding orange is lighter as in the logo in the header and I’d like to to match.
    Grazie!

  • Hi Sharon,

    I see what you mean – the active page is highlighted in black.
    It looks like this isn’t editable without the custom design upgrade:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

    If you’re comfortable with CSS, it gives you a ton of flexibility to determine colors and almost anything else in the site – including font!

    In this case, I think that’s going to be your best bet for getting the look you’re going for.

    I hope that helps!

    Hello!
    I already have the custom design upgrade in place and although not expert with CSS, I’m good at dropping code snippets into the CSS Stylesheet Editor. Hum has 3 custom colors, 1 for background, one for Hover Accent, and one for Site Title & Links. The other 2 custom colors are “X”ed out. Is there some coding I can drop in to change the black color back to blue?

  • Ok, I didn’t see the upgrade on your account, but see it’s on the other administrator’s account instead.

    This should help make that active page color orange instead of black (I pulled out that color, but you can change it to anything you like):

    #page #branding #access .current_page_item > a, #page #branding #access .current_page_ancestor > a {
    color: #f7941e;
    }

    You may also find some really in-depth help on the CSS Customization forum; the volunteers there are typically very helpful!

    The other account meaning lollipop? I’m this site designing for them and for another, sorry for the confusion!

    This of course worked beautifully. Thank you!

    One final nit (I hope!) When hovering over the submenus the font turns brownish which is not in the color vocabulary. I’d like to change it to a cyan from the pinwheel (c1ebf5). Can you provide one more bit of code so I can change?

  • Hi there,

    Since this is in Staff Answers, it can’t actually be moved into another forum, you would need to start a fresh post there.

    It looks like you want this code:

    #page #branding #access ul ul a:hover, #page #branding #access ul ul a:focus, #page #branding #access ul ul .current_page_item > a:hover, #page #branding #access ul ul .current_page_item > a:focus, #page #branding #access ul ul .current_page_ancestor > a:hover, #page #branding #access ul ul .current_page_ancestor > a:focus {
    color: #c1ebf5;
    }

    Best of luck!

    Perfect!! The cyan color was a tad too light, but that was my fault, so once I darkened it, it looks great.

    I just have to say how much I appreciate your support. Good answer all of them, all working the first time in. And you answered my questions like an automatic Pez dispenser. Awesome!

  • I take that as the best compliment – I love pez :)

    Good luck with the site!
