Main nav break – issue with submenus and mobile hamburger not displaying
-
We’ve been having ongoing issues with the display of our main navigation display on both the desktop and mobile versions of the website. The top nav has 4 main navigation tabs with multiple child and sub-child menu items which currently do not display on hover. On the mobile menu front, the hamburger menu does not open when clicked on. The site is using Elementor (Version 3.18.3) and Elementor Pro (Version 3.18.1) and have noticed a series of other breaks with Elementor widgets including count blocks not working, excessing spacing using the posts block. The business has a series of other sites built using the same WordPress framework (theme is TwentyTwenty and using Elementor/Elementor Pro) and has had similar issues.
We have tried to rebuild the main nav, reviewed/amended the settings of how the main nav displays (according to forum troubleshooting), cleared the site cache, run multiple plugin health checks to check for plugin conflicts and regenerated the CSS & data files, but nothing seems to resolve the issue. We have also cross-checked the settings and menu functions between the sister sites and not found any glaring anomalies or issues to suggest a problem.
Quick fire summary of the main items running the site…
Theme is TwentyTwenty
Elementor – Version 3.18.3
Elementor Pro – Version 3.18.1
RankMath – Version 1.0.209Any ideas would be much appreciated!

We can’t help with third party plugins. As you have Elementor Pro you also paid for their support.

Thanks for the reply. Just wanted to understand if I had missed anything to check in terms of menu configurations that might be causing the error…

@paulvwic I agree it’s probably best to contact their support. I’m also noticing other spacing issues on mobile (headings sections getting cut off, etc) so I’m guessing the menu is being cut off or buried by other elements, but they’ll know more.
For what it’s worth: it’s fine on Inspect Element in Chrome. Not okay on iphone or android here though. Want to let us know what you find?

@paulvwic, just after I sent this I found another issue where a menu wouldn’t open, and it seems it’s related to a gutenberg issue that’s getting sorted soon.
If you’d like, you can test whether that’s affecting your site too by disabling that plugin with health check, though of course you would need to enable health check through your phone to properly test it there. I hope this helps!

Thank you so much for the feedback and signposting @supernovia – I’ve just disabled Gutenberg on the site and the problems we’ve been experiencing SEEM to have resolved themselves. I’m going to leave the site to sit for a few hours and continue to test via mobile and desktop incognito browsers to see whether this is just a blip or a real solution. Strangely I didn’t see Gutenberg listed as a direct plugin conflict (https://elementor.com/help/known-plugin-conflicts/) so didn’t even think this was the issue. Have notified the other site owners of the conflict so we disable the plugin universally. Will update on the status of the site if things remain settled.
