main-style.css is vanishing on a site I'm helping with

Hey guys, I’ve been doing web development for a while, but only using WordPress for a short amount of time and I’ve hit a nasty issue.

I’m being paid to fix an issue on a WordPress site that uses what I believe is a custom theme that inherits from Cherry, called theme49008. There is a button that the front-end person added to the front of the page that was jumping around as the page changed size due to the responsiveness settings.

I fixed the button by changing the settings on it in the main-style.css sheet. Easy peasy. The button did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Until it didn’t. A few hours later, the button started behaving exactly as it had before and I found to my dismay that the site had deleted all the css I wrote. So I wrote it again, and the same thing happened.

This time, I went into the ftp, added the relevant CSS style.less, style.css, style.less.cache, and main-style.css, and replaced them manually on the ftp, thinking that this would solve the problem for sure.

But now it’s worse. main-style.css is still on the ftp, but for some reason the file doesn’t show up when I go to Edit Themes, and when I click update by putting in the contents of the version of main-style.css I have saved, it does nothing. The page stays blank.

Does anyone have any idea what’s wrong, or at least how I could begin to troubleshoot this issue? The site is supposed to go live tomorrow. Thank you!

The site you are asking about does not seem to be hosted on WordPress.COM so you need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using.

This site is for support of sites hosted on WordPress.COM. You should address your questions to WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/

The forum at WordPress.ORG is not connected to WordPress.COM so you will need to open an account at .ORG if you do not already have one. You may use the same email at WordPress.ORG as you do at WordPress.COM.
