Maintaining high def downloadable images on posts

  • Unknown's avatar

In the past (up until Oct. 2015) I could post high definition images and map work (600 dpi) in my blog posts. Viewers were able to click on the images to see them in true size, and they could download the original HD versions. See https://ericrossacademic.wordpress.com/2015/10/18/mapping-the-mercantilist-world-economy/ for an example of this.
Then (sometime before Dec. 2015) your system changed. Even though I upload my images and maps in the largest format possible, They appear to viewers in a reduced size and viewers are no longer able to download them in their original HD versions. See https://ericrossacademic.wordpress.com/2015/12/13/mapping-the-zawiyas-of-fez/ for an example of this.
Is there any way I can solve this problem?

  • Hi there,

Currently the editor doesn’t automatically link to the image file when you insert it. It’s on our list of enhancements for the next version of the editor, though.

For now, when you insert an image, click on the image immediately after you add it. Then click the link icon in the editor. The Insert Link pop-up should be pre-filled with the link to the image file, and once you add that they image will be hyperlinked to the full-size version.

If you prefer you can also still use the WP-Admin editor where you can still edit the link settings of an image with more options, and which remembers the last-used setting when you add new images. To use that editor, go to Posts ->All Posts here:
