Major Domain Issues
-
I’m in desperate need of some help…
We started our blog 2 months ago with blog.com and purchased our domain thegoldengetaway.com through them. Their service and server was beyond terrible so we search and found the best platform… WordPress.
We have mapped the domain to wordpress but blog.com will not send us the epp code and there is no way of contacting them. We have tried for weeks.
So we purchased a new domain last night ‘ourgoldengetaway.com’ through wordpressThe issue is this… Sometimes whenever anyone clicks on the Home page it redirects them the ‘thegoldengetaway’ which is still linked to blog.com and shows an error message. I want to delete the domain from our site so as to ensure our readers do not face this issue.
How do i do that? Please help!

Skip the epp code – you can’t transfer domain registration to WordPress.COM – they are not set up for incoming transfers
You can map an existing domain name to your blog here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Note that it can take 24 to 72 hours after changes are made to domains for the changes to reach the far corners of the internet – access to your site will be erratic during that time – you will also be the last one to see the changes
you can also have more than one domain name mapped to the same blog here – but only one can be “Primary” (one displayed in visitors browser address line)
hope this helps a bit

It can take as long as 72 hours for DNS changes to become widely available. If you’re still not seeing your site loading at ourgoldengetaway.com, please wait a few more hours, clear your browser cache, and try again.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookiesI’m in Canada and the blog is correctly redirecting to your domain for me. See here to observe the progress https://www.whatsmydns.net/ and know it’s not uncommon for your own ISP to be last to flush their DNS cache.

Thank you auxclass. So re the epp code, does this mean that we have hypothetically lost the original domain name? We have mapped it but the provider (blog.com) has terrible issues and always redirects to an error page… Hence wanting to remove it from WordPress altogether.
And many thanks to you timethief!

No – not at all – the domain name is safe – you just can’t move the Registration to WordPress.COM – after 60 days (internet rules) from registration (or changes to some info) – you can transfer the registration to another Registrar – I have friends that use Name cheap
