Major issue with hosting and concern about losing content

  • Unknown's avatar

I had an issue with Bluehost regarding my site, readeatdewwrite and a restored backup that apparently did not work. ALL of the content is showing up on the backend, however, in WordPress. I want to preserve the content more than I want to keep the site live, but for now, since I have paid for hosting through June, I would like to keep the site up. It is a confusing scenario and I also spoke to GoDaddy about it. They’re advising that I check the site again in a few hours since the restore only happened this morning, but that I should also copy over the site. I am not sure what to do, or how! ANY help would be appreciated.

  • Hi there,

We have no access to your Bluehost site, as it’s on Bluehost’s servers, not ours. You’ll need to contact Bluehost support for help with restoring a backup of your site, or you can ask for advice on the best thing to do in the self-hosted WordPress forums, as we can only help with WordPress.com sites over here:

If Bluehost knew what they were doing, I would not be in this situation. Their backup is one page, unfortunately. I would like to switch the hosting to WordPress and I also want to know how to make the site private as right now it is only rendering as one page and that is looking pretty un-pro.

  • Which site do you want to set to private?

WordPress.com sites can be set to private by going to My Site ->Settings, but for the Bluehost site you’ll need a plugin to do that. Here is a tutorial on how to do that:

    http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-make-your-wordpress-blog-completely-private/

If you want to switch the site to us, first you’ll need a free WordPress.com address. Create an export file of the Bluehost site at Tools ->Export in the dashboard, and then import that on the WordPress.com site at My Site ->Settings ->Import.

Once the import is complete, map your domain over to us, and you can continue setting up the site here. More information at these links:
