Major Problem With Spam Today
-
When a comment, within Akismet, is “De-spam marked comments”, it appears to go straight into the post as a comment. Is there a way to put it to “defer” or have it moved to the comment moderatation section?
The reason I ask is that what appears to be a legititmate comment (see http://gottabkd.wordpress.com/2007/03/24/tyra-kills-off-models/) could actually really be spam. When I clicked on the linked provided to the commentor, the blog/website is moving and therefore I cannot confirm the legiticamy of the comment.
I don’t think there is a way, but just wondering if I missed a check box somewhere under options to “turn” them to the comments section?
Thanks

Um, that’s a spam site. I don’t think that a 28 Mm Rotary Cutter tool would have anything to do with Tyra Banks unless she’s throwing that as her assistants now along with her phones.
To answer the question though, mark it as “Unapprove” and it will drop it back into the moderator queue.
Hope this helps,

OK Dr Mike, I wasn’t sure what a rotary tool was (LOL) and am glad I aked. I guess that even though my site is in the “reader” it may still be spam.
Problem is I do not have the option “unapprove” while in the Akismet Comment section just Delete all Apam and De-Spam selected comments. So how do I accomplish the “unapprove” angle while uner Akismet Comments?
Also just curious, if I mark a comment as Spam, is it marked that way for everyone who may get a comment from the same IP address on their blogs as well? I wondering if there is a ripple effect with Akismet.
Thanks -
You see that option in the regular comment list. From the Akismet queue, mark it as Not Spam to get it over to the main comment list and then a “Unapproved” once it’s there.
As I understand Akismet, it’s like a vote against both teh content and IP address in question. Get enough of them from different sources, and then it will be marked as spam automattically.

Tnx Dr Mike,
I did mark it as “not spam”, but it moved it directly to the post it was connected to.
I then went into comments, saw it there, waited for your answer, then unapproved it.
Maybe it’s the the theme that defaults it to the post once it is de-spammed?
Maybe this could be a new option in the Akismet Comments Section? (to move it to moderate comments so one can investigate further. Just a suggestion.)If you de-spam one comment, does it de-spam all the comments from that IP if there are more of them in the Akismet Section or just the one that is check marked?
Thanks again for your help. -

Akismet rocks! When I got up this morning I had over 450 spams caught. No false positives and Akismet has still been going strong all day.
