Major traffic spike at same time every day

I’m not sure if there’s a spam bot or something pinging my blog, but for the last few days, every day before 8:30 I’m getting a massive jump in traffic almost instantaneously. Can you guys explain this? I can tell it’s not from normal traffic so just want to make sure there’s nothing fishy going on. Thanks!

Hi Robert – I don’t see anything unusual in your Stats, and looking at the day-to-day, it all appears to be normal fluctuations. Of course, I can’t see an hourly breakdown.
How do you know it’s at the same time every day? Have you just happened to notice? Do these views come from any particular referrer or view any particular post or page?

Hey Eurello. It just happened again. It was literally a jump of about 100 page views over 5 minutes. I checked it one minute and I had 251 page views. 5 minutes later I had 350. No significant increase in referrals. It’s always between 8:15 and 8:30 every morning. Is this some kind of bot activity? Not liking this because it’s definitely skewing my numbers.
Possibly related, I’ve had a lot of increase in spam that isn’t getting caught by Akismet over the last few weeks. Yesterday alone, I had 4 or 5 comments get through the filter.

Just did it for the second time today. Big spike with no referrals or specific posts to attribute it to.
