Major TROUBLE uploading images to a post…help!

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve been downloading images from Flickr the SAME WAY since I’ve been with WordPress.
Suddenly…when I hit the INSERT button…a “tiny single dot” appears where the photo should be…and NOTHING else.

I’ve tried it 6 times…and still no photo.

This is the first time this has happened.

    Anyone else having this issue?

    Any HELP would be appreciated.

    Thanks everyone!

That’s the Spaceball gif, and it’s appearing because of the settings at the Flickr account. You need the actual URL of the image and you need to change the settings to allow hotlinking, because right now it appears that this is not enabled; people use this setting when they don’t want other people posting their pictures around the net.

Thank you very much for your reply!

I DO use the “actual url” of the image…each time I post. And I’ve done this since I’ve use flickr.

Could you be more specific explaining “hotlinking” – I have no idea what you are talking about.

What to you mean by “enabling” it?

I haven’t “changed” a single thing on my blog.

Is this something on flickr’s end?

This is happening with ALL the photos I try to post…not just this one photo.

If you can help me out a bit more…I’d appreciate it…thanks for gettting back to me!

I don’t really know Flickr at all, I just know that when I try to copy pictures from the site sometimes the owner has set it so that all I get is the spaceball.

Can you maybe give us an example of a URL that you tried to post, plus the URL of the Flickr page it appears in? That might help us figure something out.

If all else fails, you could try copying them into your computer and uploading them to WordPress. If you try that and still get the little spaceball, let us know that too. Maybe a Flickr using guru will be on later.

    Wow..that was a fast reply..thank you!

    The image is http://farm1.static.flick.com/21/26132968_21fb3d5c07_m_d.jpg

I will take your advice and copy it to my computer and try then downloading it.

    Can I do that?

I thought I had to use the icon on the post bar to do that.

I also went to flickr and looked around for any information there. I found something that said that my account somehow was PENDING. Which is totally weird because I’ve had this account for almost a year now.

Perhaps this IS an issue with flickr.

Anyway, I apppreciate your quick response…thanks!

Something is up with that URL; it won’t load at all. My best guess is that you’ll have to take it up with Flickr.

Give the downloading and then uploading a try; you can just use the Upload editor to position the image if you want. Don’t worry about what it looks like in the Upload box; put it in the blog and see what it looks like there, as things often look screwy in the Upload box, dunno why.

Won’t load for me either. Can you post teh URL of the page you’re getting it from please?

    Here it is: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=paws&s=int

If this doesn’t work for you guys…I’ll try the downloading thing.

    Thanks again for your assistance!

OK, this is the photo you want, right?
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/pscafe/26132968/

Have your post open in one window or tab and Flickr open in another.

On the Flickr photo page, click on “All Sizes” at the top of the picture

Click on the size you want from the available sizes (i suggest thumbnail):
    Square (75 x 75)
    Thumbnail (75 x 100)
    Small (180 x 240)
    Medium (374 x 500)
    Original (479 x 640)

Right click on the image and choose “copy image location” (this is what Firefox gives me, other browsers may use different terms, but you need to just copy the link to the image somehow)

Go to your post and click on the “Code” tab

    Enter the following:
    <img src="PASTE THE IMAGE LOCATION HERE">

Click on the “Visual” tab, and you should see the picture

Go back to the Flickr page and click “Back to the Flickr photo page” at the top of the screen

Highlight the URL for the photo page in the address bar of your browser and copy it

    Go back to your post

Click on the picture, and click on the link icon in the toolbar

Paste the URL in the “Link URL” field

You have now managed to hotlink the Flickr photo to your post (which Flickr allows) and linked back to the original page where you found it to give proper credit to the photographer.

I hope this is helpful; it’s the only way i deal with using Flickr images that aren’t mine. I have never used their “Blog This” function.
