Make a Post NOT Show up on the Home Page, but Only in a Specific Category
-
I am in the process of adding a video section to our blog. I have already created a “Videos” category. I want to make posts that contain our youtube videos, but I do not want those posts to show up on the homepage feed. I want them only to show up when someone navigates to the “Videos” category.
My question is, how do I make a post that only shows up in a specific category, and NOT on the main feed?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

(1) There is only one page we can post to in any blog and
(2) The static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ we create do not automatically update.Only the dynamic pages like Archives, Categories and Tags created by the software when we publish a post will update automatically update with new posts.
By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.
We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#changing-the-order-creating-sub-menusWe can also add other items into a custom menu like static Pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-pages but as I said above no static Pages will ever automatically update.
There are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and there are some tweaks you can use to improve your custom menu as well.

Yes, I think I understand that. My question is specifically in regards to that one default front page that displays all the posts. My question is, is there a way to make certain posts NOT show up on that page?

No and what I provided above is how we workaround that reality.

Yep, thanks for that. I’m working on trying to implement that now.
I think that instead of making “posts” with our videos, I will just make “pages” and add links to the top menu.
Thanks everyone for your input.

May I prevail upon you to read my article? If you do you will understand that search engines are attracted to Posts, not to Pages.

Well, you can date them all far in the past, like a year ago, so they don’t show on the front page. But you’d have to do this for ALL posts in that category otherwise they will get out of order.
