Make a post “private”
-
I’m not sure how to word this question but I’ll try. I want to create a post that does not show on my blog but is available via a link. For example, if I post a picture of a test photograph that is only for a handful of techies to view via email, can I link them to it without requiring passwords sign-ins etc. I just want to say “Go here to see the results www….. I hope I’m clear,
Thank you,

Mark has done a great job of explaining this here http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/04/12/what-is-the-post-status/

Are you saying that it’s not possible in wordpress and I should go to http://www.slide.com and create a guestbook outside of wordpress and my blog. WordPress only has draft, private and published so I guess my request is not possible in WordPress?
Thank you,

No.
“Private” Selecting this option will make a post private when you click “Save”. This means that the post will be visible on your blog, but only to you when you are logged in. If you select “Private” and then click “Publish” the post will be posted publicly on your blog for everyone to see (unlike password protected posts). A post marked Private will be listed alongside published posts on the Manage Post page. Posts which are Saved as Private are not visible to Blog Surfer. They are completely invisible to everyone except you (and will be invisible to you if you are not logged into wordpress.com). They are also invisible to your blog’s Search widget.
So I think this means you can create a private post and then give the link to it via email only to those those whom you want to read it.

Hi Time Thief,
I just created a private post, then emailed myself the link. When I went to the email and clicked on the link I got this: Sorry, no posts matched your criteria. This was the link: -
hmmm … I get the same thing. This is not going to work for you at least using this theme. Give me 5 and I’ll try other themes on my test blog.
Edit: scratch that idea because I don’t have the time. I do remember that jennryan have posted a lot on this subject so you could check the forum search box.

It does say above that private posts: “….are completely invisible to everyone except you.”

Clicking Publish will always show a Private post to the world
You must click Save.If you are not logged in, you cannot see a Private post.
@beforethecoffee – You have 2 options:
1 – Use the timestamp box and send the post back in time. So you change the post time, click Publish. Then click Manage, find the post, click View and copy the url
2 – Use the timestamp box and send the post to the future. Here’s one I’ll make later:

Same method as the above.Neither fully hide it but you could post them a year ahead and only those with the url will find them. I;m not sure how comments on those posts would work….

mark: have you deleted the future post? i tried and it shows a 404.
the backdated method works for sure.

I still see it… maybe because it’s my post?
Odd.So posting back to 1970 might be better.
