Make a site

I have an old html site on a free server right now. But was told that Google is placing html page lower down on the search pages now. I have a domain name pointing to my html site and I keep getting told to go to WordPress and make a site. But I’m not sure what kind to start. I need sales and subscription. But I want the subscriptions to only be read online. I have had my pdfs reprinted and sold in the past.
