Make download content for subscribers only – no fee

I have downloadable files on my site, and would like to make subscriptions a requirement to get them, but without charging a fee. Is this possible, as I’m not sure after reviewing the premium block?

The Premium Content block is intended for paid content, so there is not an option to allow only free subscribers to have access. One option you could consider is to connect your site to a free Mailchimp account, and offering your subscriptions through Mailchimp instead: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/mailchimp-block/#tips-for-running-an-email-list
This would allow you to set a custom thank you message for any new signups, as well as provide a way to communicate with subscribers directly by setting up a simple newsletter and sharing your downloadable files that way.
