Make duplicate wordpress site

  Hi! I have a wordpress site (eg. hello.com). I would like to create a duplicate of this site in another wordpress site (eg. oldhello.wordpress.com). I have tried exporting from the hello.com site and importing to oldhello.wordpress.com, but only the pages and posts are there. Is there a way to import such that everything including the themes, backgrounds, etc. are the same?

  If your hello.com is a standalone WP site, the only thing that will import is the content, posts, pages, comments, categories, tags, and references to your site’s images. Things like custom themes, backgrounds, scripts you used on your standalone WP will not be imported.

  If you are intending the duplicate as a mirror site to your online site hello.com, you will want to make the site Private in order to keep it out of search engines and avoid duplicate content issues. Here’s more on site Privacy: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

  Hi Jennifer,

  Thanks for your help. hello.com is a wordpress hosted site (it used to be a wordpress.com site and I bought the domain name to remove the .wordpress extension). Would I then be able to import the entire website?

  So, if I understand correctly, your hello.com site is also hosted here on WordPressdotcom but using a custom domain? If so, it is still a WordPressdotcom site, same terms of service, yada yada… :)

  Your theme, its customizations and widgets won’t get imported. You’ll need to reconstruct those. If you had a premium theme or custom design/CSS on your hello.com site, unless you request Staff to transfer the upgrades or purchase those upgrades (Premium or Business plan) for your new site, those won’t come over.

  However, the export file you created at hello.com (a WordPressdotcom site) should contain more than posts and pages. Comments, categories, tags, and references to your site’s images should also be in your export file. If they didn’t, please give us the exact URLs of both sites and then add the MODLOOK tag to the Tags section of the forum thread sidebar to receive Staff assistance.
