Make featured images on regular pages the same size as on posts pages?

  • Unknown's avatar

    I would like to make all featured images on my site the size that they appear when on a blog post, but I wish to get rid of the navigation arrows at the bottom of each post (so that the page looks like a regular page). When I add featured images to a regular page, however, the featured image is considerably shorter along the vertical axis.

    Anybody have a solution?

    Either to make featured images on regular pages the same height as those on posts pages, or to get rid of the navigation arrows on posts pages.

    Thanks!

    Hi @vukfilipic,
    The size of the featured image on your site is relative to the amount of text present inside it. This is because there’s no fixed size assigned to it.
    So what you can do it assign a fixed height to the featured images section so that it has a consistent height on all pages, using this CSS code:

    body.page .article-cover__inner {
        padding: 0;
        height: 500px;
    }

    and then changing the font-size so that the text fits inside the featured image:

    h1.entry-title {
        font-size: 100px !important;
    }

    If you don’t want to change the font-size then just reduce the number of words inside the featured image text so that it fits inside it.

    Let me know it this helps :)

    Thank you so much for your help! Very happy with the result.

    If you are willing to help me out a little more, another thing that I’d like to have on my site is a full width carousel gallery, similar to the one featured in the “AWESOME” theme:

    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/awesome/

    So far talking to the live support, I haven’t had much luck. If you have a suggestion, I’d greatly appreciate any help!

    Thanks again!

    @vukfilipic,
    First of all, apologies for delayed response.
    and, Glad i could help :)

    I am afraid you cannot add that carousel from the awesome theme with the exact look, since your theme does not have that feature: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/carbon/

    But if you wish to have something similar to it, here’s what you can do:
    You can use the image gallery and set it to slideshow mode which will automatically slide through all the images you uploaded to a particular post. And then use some CSS to make the slider full width.

    Read more about it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/gallery/

    Hey, and thanks again for getting back!

    I’ve looked into the slideshow set up, but I think the CSS work arounds are a little out of my league. When I inspect the element in my browser, I see a massive string of code – not sure if this is PHP?

    Is it possible to have the slide show span the full width (or as close to as possible) of the browser page and to have the background white?

    Really appreciate all your support!

    This is currently the test page I’ve created for the gallery:

    Take care.
