  Is there a way to make all of my past posts (78) private in one shot?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Have you tried using bulk edit? https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/#bulk-edit

  Note that as the site is private it may not make any sense to make the posts in it private.
