Make profile picture taller, more vertical

Can someone tell me how to make my profile photo so it’s taller, vertical, with more height, rather than a square? Thank you

Where exactly do you want your picture to appear taller/in portrait orientation? I don’t see any sites in the account you’re using to post here.
If you mean in places like your profile page itself on Gravatar.com or https://wordpress.com/me/, or when you comment on or like a post on a site, then that’s not possible. When you upload an image as your profile picture that image is cropped to be a square, and that cropped version is the one that’s used everywhere across WordPress.com.

The site I am commenting on is https://www.madinamerica.com/. I didn’t seem to need to add to my wordpress profile because it seems to automatically add my image to it’s forum. I’ve noticed other people on the site have portrait mode on theirs. I’m pretty sure they are using theirs through Gravatar, like I am. I guess I could ask them. Not sure. Thanks again.

That site is not hosted on WordPress.com, so we have no control over how anything over there works.
But if they have Gravatars enabled, and you commented using the email address associated with your WordPress.com/Gravatar account, it would be pulling in your image from Gravatar.com, so it would be using the square-cropped version.
If there are other commenters whose photos have portrait orientation, those images might be getting pulled in from somewhere else – it looks like that site might be using a membership plugin (based on what I see when I click the Log In button in the comments section), so perhaps people can upload profile pictures for their membership account on the site.
But the folks who run the site will have more details on this, so asking them directly is your best bet, yes :)
