make site mobile friendly

    Hi,
there’s no way that my theme, Modularity Light can be made mobile friendly? When I view it in a smartphone the background is white and my logo looks awful. I tried changing the theme to a ‘mobile friendly’ one but it’s honestly taking a tremendous amount of time to find the right theme that works with my logo and I’m having to start pretty much from scratch. Also, when I stopped trying out this new mobile friendly theme and wanted to revert back to my old settings I used on Modularity Lite, the settings didn’t save so I’m trying to get back to my original site. Also, trying to make it so that my home page is my blog post from Oct 2011. It seems to work on my computer but not from phone and when I went into ‘Settings,’ it wouldn’t give me the option to make that blog post the home page. I thought I would be able to simply keep the background color the same when viewed on a phone. Thanks

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The mobile ready theme is a default theme and a completely different theme that you do not need to enable, if your theme is listed as a responsive layout theme here https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/responsive-layout/

The mobile default theme is provided for those who run older themes that aren’t the gold standard which is responsive layout.

A responsive layout theme adapts to different screen sizes so that your website will work (and be optimized for) iPhones, iPads, Android and other mobile devices. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.

When we use a responsive theme we disable the mobile theme. Go to > Appearance > Mobile and disable the mobile theme

You can read more in the support docs at https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/mobile-themes/

You can test your site at this link https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

You are using an old retired theme that is not responsive and the recommendation is to switch themes as retired themes do not support all wordpress.COM features.

Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do some work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme and have done any CSS editing.

Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.

The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.

Note that every theme will have a detailed theme description page with set-up instructions and a live demo site page that you can consult. Here’s an example:
    https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/adaption/
    http://adaptiondemo.wordpress.com/

Why don’t you try previewing one of these themes?

    Hey,
thank you. Yes I found that changing the theme dramatically changed my blog and especially messed up my logo. I’ve tried for several hours now to find one that works with my logo. I’m not clear still if this theme, Modularity Lite is mobile friendly? I don’t think it is. I think that’s what you’re saying. I only recently turned “on” that “enable mobile” function. It didn’t make a difference. It didn’t used to be on.

Modularity Lite is an old retired theme that does not support all, wordpress.COM features. Can you enable the default mobile theme that does not look at all like the theme on the site on it? The answer is yes. Dashboard > Appearance > Mobile Would I do so? No. I run only responsive layout themes on my blogs.

To see all the themes that are supported, check out the Site Logo filter http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/site-logo/ on the Theme Showcase.
