What does it do?
I’m referring to a field on the top of my site stats:
You’re one step away from using unbiasedeye.com as your blog address. Click here to activate unbiasedeye.com.
Will that make the url unbiasedeye.com instead of unbiasedeyedotcom.wordpress.com?
Blog url: http://unbiasedeyedotcom.wordpress.com/ -
It means that all occurrences of unbiasedeyedotcom.wordpress.com will be replaced with unbiasedeye.com.
-
That would be perfect.
I thought that would be the consequence of having my domain mapped in the first place, and if someone writes the plain domain name, unbiasedeye.com, it has resolved to the unbiasedeyedotcom.wordpress.com when I opened the account.
But if someone visits the blog, what they see in the location bar is the long version: unbiasedeyedotcom.wordpress.com, so that’s how they would bookmark it and how they would link it. I was hoping it would be more portable. Not that I’m planning an exit, but you never know.

If you update your Primary Domain to unbiasedeye.com, visitors will be able to see only unbiasedeye.com in their navigation bar and bookmark this URL instead of the longer .wordpress.com version.
However, until unbiasedeye.com is set as your Primary Domain, visitors to your site will see your full, underlying URL: unbiasedeye.wordpress.com

I went to the Primary Domain page — which is here:
The only choices I get are *.wordpress.com.
I paid $12 to map the domain unbiasedeye.com to my WordPress blog; if you write ‘unbiasedeye.com’ in a browser, you see my blog. But the the location bar, and consequently any links and bookmarks say unbiasedeyedotcom.wordpress.com
Can this be changed? Name resolution works, but the location bar does not show the right url.

You can update your primary domain by going to your Dashboard -> Store -> Domains and clicking on the radio button next to unbiasedeye.com:

A thousand thank yous.
I just couldn’t find that page. I found others that did different things. I knew the mapping was recorded since requests from outside were handled correctly.
