Making a Home Page
-
I’m trying to get a static home page. The help section said to go to Settings/Reading and change it there. However, there’s no option to do so in the reading section. What do I need to do here?

By default the front page of your blog displays all published posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. That is for the convenience of your returning visitors, who come to read your latest post, and who are not likely to be happy with being compelled to click through the same static page with the same blah, blah, blah on it every time they visit the blog looking for the latest post.
However, if you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page called for example “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts. To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/
After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

Thanks, but I made those two pages. The Reading panel just doesn’t show any option for making a designation change.

I’m still not seeing an option to make it a static page. I did a Find function and everything.

Did you make the two pages like I said to do first using these instructions or not? To do that create two pages first http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/

The instructions aren’t matching what I see on my screen. For instance, the Page Attributes section only lets me change the page order; there’s no option to make Parent pages.
Are these only available if you get the paid version of WordPress?

Oh, I changed my username. I’ll delete the blog and make a new account (I don’t want to go back to the old username for privacy reasons). Thanks.

Please read this before you delete the blog. To prevent accidental or inadvertent deletion of blogs, there are multiple warnings given that blog deletion is permanent and irreversible. Lastly, a verification link is sent in an email and must be clicked to delete a blog. If clicking that link does not work then copy and paste it into your upper browser window and click. Once clicked the blog URL is forever gone, gone, gone.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/You cannot recover or register any deleted blog URL. Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.

If the options in Settings > Reading don’t show, then your pages are drafts or private. They need to be published and public.
