Making a new site – but it says it's subdomain?

Hi everyone,
I am trying to create a new site with a domain name that I already had when I first opened my account, but eventually decided to use a different one.
Now I want it for another site (using my same wordpress account), but it’s saying ‘You cannot map another WordPress.com subdomain – try creating a new site or one of the custom domains below.’ The domain name I want is not already taken (it had been, by me, and now the page comes up that it was deleted by the author).
I believe this is because the domain name is still connected with my other blog, but I can’t find any mention of it anywhere in the domains page or anywhere else in my settings. I want to disconnect them so I can use it for another blog. Does this make any sense to anyone, and is there any way I can get around it?

Every wordpress.COM blog is on a .wordpress.com sub domain like this one http://mariaflann.wordpress.com/
I believe this is because the domain name is still connected with my other blog

Deleting a blog URL is not easily done and multiple warnings that deletion is intended to be permanent and non-reversible are given all along the way.
Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and the only exceptions are made are for URLs that were deleted 2 or more years ago. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
You can register another .wordpress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.

The new domain name that I want to get is thetrousersuit.wordpress.com (I once had this but deleted it)
So, because it was once a domain name I can’t re-use it? I do want to keep my other blog, I just want to set up this new one as well…
